The Commander of Land Forces Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga has emphasized the importance of resource management which is critical for the fulfillment of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) constitutional mandate and mission.

Lt Gen Muhanga made these remarks while presiding over the handover and takeover ceremony of the Chief of Staff – Land Force office on June 12, 2024, at the Land Force Headquarters in Bombo.

Brig Gen Michael Kabango assumed command after Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, the former Chief of Staff of Land Force.

According to Lt Gen Muhanga, poor resources management causes issues with command, which in turn disturbs regular army operations.  He also warned that officers would be held responsible by the leadership and Parliament, which allocates the resources.

Maj Gen Bakasumba conveyed his appreciation to the UPDF leadership for their support and the opportunity to serve.

“I will indeed remain indebted for all the guidance and support rendered to me in the execution of my duties,” Maj Gen Bakasumba said.

The new Chief of Staff Land Force, Brig Gen Kabango, expressed gratitude to the UPDF leadership for entrusting him with the role and to his predecessor for being a mentor.

Senior officers from various departments attended the ceremony, including the Reserve Force Chief of Staff, Brig Gen Mwanje Ssekiranda, Director of Medical Services, Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports, and Culture, and General Manager of Defence Forces Shop Uganda Limited, Brig Gen Dr. James Kiyengo.
