The Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development has released UGX 13.69 billion to pay the outstanding arrears for the Kampala Capital City Authority cleaners.

Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, the Minister for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), confirmed the release while addressing journalists at her office in Kampala on June 6, 2024.

She added that all the money being demanded by the causal workers will be effected as soon as possible, and by June 13, 2024, all arrears will have been paid to zero balance.

“I therefore urge the workers to exercise patience and return to work as they await their payments from KCCA, which will be effected as soon as possible,” said Kabanda.

This comes after KCCA casuals went on strike on June 5, 2024, and threw rubbish at KCCA offices over non-payment for the past six months.

They also demanded to know why their money that is deducted from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has never been remitted for the last six years.
