Uganda, USA to Continue Their Mutually Beneficial Relationship – US Ambassador Popp

The Ambassador of the United States of America to Uganda, His Excellency William W. Popp has stated that the USA will continue to work together with Uganda to foster a strong and mutually beneficial relationship.

Ambassador Popp made the remarks while meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at State House Entebbe, where he appreciated the President’s valuable time and wise counsel.

“I acknowledged President Museveni’s extensive knowledge and experience. It is important to continue the dialogue in fostering a strong and mutually beneficial relationship between the United States and Uganda,” Ambassador Popp said.

President Museveni shared with the ambassador the significant events currently taking place in the country, such as the population census and peacekeeping in the region.

He emphasised the importance of conducting a comprehensive and inclusive count that will provide crucial data for informed decision-making and effective governance.

“I had a productive meeting with the US Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. William Popp. We discussed key issues such as the upcoming census, regional peace, and socio-economic development. I emphasised the need for an inclusive census for informed decision-making. I also shared my views on fostering peace and security in the region,” President Museveni stated on his social media account.

President Museveni further noted the opportunities for transitioning the Ugandan population from a rural-based, pre-capitalist society to industry and services.

He underscored the necessity of collaboration and cooperation among nations to address common challenges and promote stability, ultimately ensuring a peaceful environment for the well-being of all citizens.

President Museveni and Ambassador Popp further explored avenues for socio-economic development, focusing on strategies to enhance Uganda’s growth and prosperity, as well as improving the long-standing relations between the two countries.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, General Jeje Odongo, the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon Jacob Oboth-Oboth, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Mrs. Rosette Byengoma, and the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lt Gen Samuel Okiding.
