Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) has called off the planned traders strike which was to be held on April 16th,2024 in Kampala and other major cities and towns.

According to Thadeus Musoke Nagenda the KACITA chairperson, the decision to call off the strike was reached after confirmation of a meeting with President Yoweri Museveni and KACITA leadership and other stakeholders on April 19, 2024.

“We shall have a meeting on Monday, April 15, 2024, with traders to discuss key issues to present to the president,” Musoke said.

Musoke also called upon all traders and businessmen in Kampala and around the country to remain calm and carry on with their business as they await the outcome of the meeting with the president.

“Fellow traders and businessmen, let us all continue with our usual business as we seek solutions to our grievances, many of you have been asking me if we should open shops or close them for business but I can assure you as Kacita we are doing all it takes to have this sorted out with the government and as Kacita leadership we are asking all our traders and businessmen to open shops and shopping arcades for normal business operations,” Musoke added.

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) introduced an Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoice Solutions (EFRIS) system meant to monitor tax compliance but the system has not been well appreciated by some traders who claim that the system is not user-friendly.

However, URA has promised to do more capacity building by training traders on how the EFRIS system works and how best they can adapt to the system to ensure proper tax compliance.
