The Kigezi Regional Police have confirmed the unfortunate incident and announced their preliminary findings regarding the cause of the accident.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi region police, the accident was triggered by a brake failure in the speeding fuel tanker. The driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to a collision with the Subaru saloon car and a motorcycle. The impact of the crash resulted in the immediate death of two individuals: Junior Byruhanga, the rider of the motorcycle, and Emiiy Ninsima, a passenger in the saloon car. Another occupant of the saloon car sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

All vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded and are currently undergoing a thorough inspection at the Kisoro Central Police Station. Authorities hope to gather more evidence and information that could provide additional insight into the exact circumstances that led to this tragic incident.

In the meantime, the bodies of the deceased victims have been transferred to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examinations, which will help in the ongoing investigation and provide closure to the families affected by this devastating accident.

ASP Maate took the opportunity to remind all road users about the importance of adhering to traffic rules and exercising caution while driving. He emphasized the need for responsible behavior on the roads to prevent such unnecessary accidents in the future. By obeying traffic regulations and maintaining vehicles in proper working condition, individuals can play a significant role in maintaining road safety for themselves and others.

The Kisoro-Kabale Road, like many other routes, serves as a vital transportation artery in the region. With increased traffic volume and various road users sharing the same stretch, it is crucial for everyone to exercise patience and drive responsibly at all times. Authorities have vowed to intensify efforts to promote road safety awareness and enhance monitoring to curtail the occurrence of such accidents.
