President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has expressed his eagerness to collaborate with British investors and attract more tourists from the United Kingdom, highlighting the potential for mutual growth and prosperity.
The President during his meeting with the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Edward at State House Entebbe yesterday March 18, 2024 informed him that he specifically tasked the British High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E Kate Airey, to facilitate such endeavors, underscoring the priority placed on fostering partnerships in business and tourism.
“Your Highness, I tasked Ms. Airey to bring me investors, British companies and tourists. That is what I am interested in from her. Then we have our common wealth cooperation,” President Museveni said.
Apart from economic endeavors, the President also expressed interest in the Commonwealth’s efforts to engage the youth through leadership programs.
“I was not aware of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award program in Uganda but I can see that these are social linkages that are very important. I am now well informed and mobilised about the program and I accept to be the patron, “the President noted.
President further extended his heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery to King Charles III upon learning of his health status from Prince Edward during the meeting.
Prince Edward a member of the British royal family and the youngest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip expressed his interest in Uganda, saying that he will return with his family to explore the country further.
“I desire to visit Uganda’s famed gorillas and recognize the significance of promoting tourism for both nations, “Prince Edward who is the patron of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, a title that was previously held by his late father, Prince Philip, who founded the program in 1956 said.
Prince Edward also shared insights into the Commonwealth’s efforts to engage the youth through leadership programs.
“We are also trying to encourage the Commonwealth to work more with the young people through the Youth leadership program which was passed during the last CHOGM,” he highlighted to the president.
H.E Airey who was also in attendance reaffirmed the enduring bond between the UK and Uganda. She emphasized the need for sustained collaboration across generations and echoed President Museveni’s vision for youth empowerment.
