Four Pupils Killed, One Injured in Fire Outbreak at Busia Victory Primary School

Four pupils have died and one injured in a fire outbreak that broke out at Busia Victory Primary School located in Kisenyi B Village, Busia Municipality, Busia District.

Johnson Mugwe, the Police Spokesperson for Bukedi South Region in a statement made on March 18, 2024, said that the incident happened on March 18, 2024, at 1:00 Am while the children were asleep.

“The Fire and Rescue team from Busia Police Station received a call about the incident on March 18, 2024, at around 0100 hours when the children were sleeping. The team responded immediately and successfully extinguished the fire, preventing its spread to other buildings,” Mugwe said.

“The affected building was a boys’ dormitory housing 62 pupils, and all properties were destroyed in the fire. The other children managed to escape the fire,” Mugwe added.

He identified the deceased as John Richard Oburu P.4, Abdul Ali P.3, James Magero P.5, and Adero Makhoha P.6.

According to Mugwe, the Egesa Alvin P.1 who survived the fire with minor injuries is currently being treated at BMK Clinic in Busia Municipality.

The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to Busia Health Centre IV for post-mortem examinations as investigations  towards the cause of the fire are ongoing.
