The President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has urged the leaders in Gomba and Sembabule to prioritize the household income of the communities they lead.

He noted that infrastructural development alone cannot eradicate poverty in an area, but rather a good household income.

“The roads, electricity, and other infrastructure are not the medicine for poverty. The medicine for poverty is household income or a good salary,” President Museveni said.

He made the statement on February 15, 2024, during a discussion with them at his Kisozi farm in Gomba District.

The president stated that development is easily attainable if the issue of household income is dealt with.

In 2011, President Museveni gave households in Gomba and Sembabule money, pigs, goats, cows, and coffee seedlings to improve their household incomes and standard of living.

The district leaders discussed ways in which the villages in the Gomba and Sembabule Districts have benefited from the project that the President awarded them back in 2011. They explored ways the leaders could assist in enlisting the remaining districts to participate in the programme, to push more households out of poverty.

The president promised to provide them with the necessary support but urged them to continuously sensitise their people to embrace government programmes like the PDM and Emyooga, among others.
