The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem, expressed disappointment today regarding the recent allegations made by human rights organization Chapter Four Uganda. During a press interview on February 13, 2024, Minister Oryem clarified that the government had already addressed these reports and that Chapter Four had not provided any new information.

In a surprising turn of events, Chapter Four Uganda had written to the United Nations Human Rights Commission, accusing the Ugandan government of engaging in human rights abuses. Additionally, the organization alleged that the Attorney General, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, had supplied false information to the commission last year while presenting the state of human rights in the country.

Minister Oryem urged the public to disregard these claims, implying that Chapter Four was seeking to gain attention and secure more funding for its activities from its donors.

“We shall not waste our ink and time responding to baseless hogwash by Chapter Four UG and Nicholas Opiyo. We know they are broke and eyeing grants.”

Chapter Four Uganda, a non-governmental organization, is dedicated to the protection of civil liberties and promoting human rights for all in Uganda. The organization derived its name from the bill of rights contained in Chapter Four of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the government will take further action to address the allegations or if Chapter Four will continue its campaign for accountability.
