The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) has denied allegations that its grading system is selective and that candidates’ scripts are easily accessible.

UNEB issued a statement on February 7, 2024, in response to a circulating post on social media stating that UNEB’s grading system is corrupt and accessible to those who have resources.

According to Dan N. Odongo, UNEB Executive Director, access to candidates’ scripts is severely restricted due to the sensitivity and complexities surrounding the scripts. Anyone who claims to have seen their child’s scripts and raw marks is making false statements.

“The grading system is uniform and is in tandem with all the set quality assurance procedures without any discrimination on any basis—regional, urban, or rural. As such, any allegation of unfair advantage of some candidates over others is malicious propaganda baseless and should be treated with the utmost contempt,” Odongo stated.

However, according to Odongo, UNEB was able to contact the author of the original message, who confirmed that he wrote the message in 2018 and shared it on a forum, where members took screenshots and shared them.

Additionally, he stated that the author’s daughter, whose identity he did not reveal, is currently enrolled in the equivalent of senior five in some international system.

Odongo stated that the author does not reveal the person who allegedly helped him access the scripts of his daughter, and he also claimed that the person retired from the board. According to Odongo, that story is false.

According to UNEB, it conducts a valid, reliable, equitable, and quality assessment of learners achievement in a professional and innovative manner and awards internationally recognised certificates to those deserving.
