The U.S. Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. William W. Popp, has called for continuous cooperation between his government and the people of Uganda.

Popp expressed the importance of two nations partnering to come up with positive outcomes and a mutual dedication to progress.

He stated this during his maiden visit to various US-supported programmes in Mbale City, Eastern Uganda.

“Yesterday in Mbale, I met with U.S. Exchange alumni from the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) programme and YALIRLCEA. I’m truly inspired to see the incredible progress these entrepreneurs have made with their businesses and the remarkable impact our alumni have had on their communities. Their stories exemplify the value of the U.S. government’s partnership with the Ugandan people,” Popp stated.

During his visit, the US Ambassador visited Busitema Nursing School and Mount Elgon Agroforestry Communities Cooperative Enterprise Limited.

Popp appreciated the progress made by the different programmes, which he reported have led to the improvement of people’s livelihoods and are also helping other people in the community to develop too.

“I have been struck clearly from the moment I visited the university, to the nursing school, to Coffee Collective, to talking to the Exchange Education Partnership, to the dynamism, to the commitment to not only improving one’s own livelihood but to helping others—that really is what we are looking for to invest in people who are not only going to move forward in their own lives but to invest back in their community, reaffirming to me that the partnership between the United States and the Ugandan people is generating more results,” he noted.

The United States and Uganda have a strong and enduring partnership, with the United States investing almost $1 billion annually in Ugandan communities.

These investments are aimed at promoting economic growth, improving health and education, upholding democratic values, and strengthening security.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been a key player in this enduring 60-year partnership, working to increase economic growth, improve health and education, and promote democratic values.
