52 Awarded Medals at NRM’s 38th Liberation Day Anniversary Celebrations

A total of fifty-two people were awarded medals at the national liberation day celebrations, which took place at St. Johns Senior Secondary School Wakitaka playgrounds in Jinja district on Friday, January 26, 2024.

Among those awarded was the former Kyabazinga of Busoga, the late Wako Muloki, for the order of the Nile first class, where he was recognised for his contribution to the people of Busoga as their cultural leader.

The medals were awarded to individuals who have distinguished themselves in productive, research, economic, social, and cultural enterprises, and also those who have distinguished themselves in leadership and service, both public and private, under this category, there were both serving and retired civil servants including police officers and other men in uniform.

Others awarded included Mr. Dhizaala Sanon Moses of the National Planning Authority, Major General Sabiiti Mzee, police constable Peter Eyotre, Mr. Baale Livingstone, ACP Ematu John Peter, and SP Waako Steven, among others.

Among the awardees, thirteen were females and thirty-nine were males. The awardees were chosen from different categories and appreciated before the President.

There were also posthumous medals awarded to a member of the family of the deceased in accordance with the law of succession and inheritance of Uganda.

The celebrations were attended by diplomats, religious leaders, and cultural leaders, as well as cabinet ministers, ministers of state, several members of parliament, members of civil society, the media fraternity, and the general public.

The celebrations were also graced by band performances by the Uganda prison brass band and the Uganda police band, who entertained guests with great performances.

The NRM liberation day is celebrated every January 26 to remember the day the NRA/NRM government took over power, and this year’s theme was “Building a country we all cherish.”.
