Rubanda District Woman MP Aspirant, Mrs. Jacqueline Katabazi, has donated an assorted set of worship equipment to the newly inaugurated Muchahi Catholic Parish in Bubare Sub County, Kabale District.

Mrs. Katabazi handed over the donation worth millions of shillings to the church leadership during the official ceremony to inaugurate St. Peter’s Catholic Church Muchahi.

The items included a thurible, a metal censer that the priest or thurifer gently swung during church mass in order to disperse the enticing smoke of the incense.

The other items included a chalice, the ceremonial cup for sacramental wine during Holy Communion, a monstrance, and an ornamental vessel for displaying the consecrated Eucharistic bread, among others, which were crafted from gold and imported directly from Italy, according to Mrs. Katabazi.

Rev. Fr. Fred Birungi, the Christ the King Parish Priest who received the donation, explained to the congregation the role of each of the items and that all the items are vital for Holy Mass celebrations.

The donation is the third of its kind since she started her campaign to support churches in Rubanda District. She made donations that were delivered to Kabirizi Catholic Parish, which was inaugurated in Rubanda Town Council in October 2022, and St. John’s Ikumba Catholic Centre in Hamurwa Town Council in August this year.

“I made the choices about the gifts myself. I was motivated by their high value and importance with an aim to alleviate the church from the complexities of procurement and logistics,” Mrs. Katabazi explained.

“I acquired these items to relieve church members of the financial burden associated with obtaining them and channel their efforts into other church needs,” Mrs. Katabazi added.

She also stated that the decision was a commitment she made together with her husband to support all the newly opened churches and those that are still struggling to raise funds for important items, such as those donated.

St. Peter’s Catholic Parish Muchahi will act as the centre of nine Catholic outstations, also known as Hiikas, which include Muchahi, Nyamiringa, Ihanga, Kagaranma, Nyakiharo, Butoboore, Ngasire, Kashaki, and Rwere Hiika.
