The Uganda Railway Corporation (URC) has announced the temporary closure of the railway level crossing along Mukwano road.
This development was confirmed in a public notice dated November 27, 2023, by the URC.

According to John Ssengendo, the Uganda Railway Corporation spokesperson, starting December 1 to 16, 2023, the railway crossing level at Mukwano will be closed to motorists to enable railway repair.

Ssengendo added that they will provide a temporary diversion route for light vehicle, motorcycles and pedestrians.

“A temporary diversion route connecting Mukwano roundabout to Jinja Road is being prepared for light vehicles, motorcycles, and pedestrians,” Ssengendo said.
He urged drivers of heavy trucks to use alternative routes.
“All heavy trucks will not be permitted to access the diversion; we advise the drivers to use alternative routes,” he added.
Previously, such closures occurred at the Wankoko and Nakawa railway level crossings, causing heavy traffic jams on the affected roads.
