Businessman Robbed of UGX 420 M at Gunpoint in Arua

Police in Arua City is investigating a case of aggravated robbery that occurred on the 23rd of November at Nsambya Cell, Awidru Ward, Arua Central Division.

According to Claire Nabakka, the Deputy police spokesperson while addressing the media at Naguru Police Headquaters, two unidentified men armed with a pistol and an SMG riding a motorcycle with a partially covered number UFW attacked one Vije Kumar, an Indian businessman, and his driver, Charles Kamwene, a Congolese national.

Nabakka adds that the victims were forced to stop and robbed of more than 420 Ugandan Shillings.

“The victims were driving in a white Mark X number UBM 913F resisted stopping; unfortunately, they were fired at, and so they had to stop. The assailants robbed them of up to UGX 420 million, “Nabakka said.

She also reported that a case of aggravated robbery has been and that efforts are underway to arrest the suspects.

“A case of aggravated robbery has already been registered and efforts are underway to arrest the suspects. We hope that we will be able to follow through and arrest these suspects,” she noted.

Another case of aggravated robbery has been registered in Mayuge involving Yasmin Gaja an Indian cashier at the GM sugar factory in Giri Giri village, Mature Town Council. According to the police, the perpetrators, dressed in army uniforms, high-jacked Gaja, who was driving a white Toyota Wish, and they were able to rob him of UGX 65 million.

Police reported that they were, however, able to capture one suspect, identified as Owubwe, who has been arrested and is in custody to assist with the investigation.

Nabakka, while informing the media at the police headquarters, stated that all the cases of robberies are being followed closely and several suspects have been taken into Custody. She pledged the police’s commitment to capturing the remaining suspects and making sure they are brought to justice.
