Uganda’s Lady Cranes Secure Safari Sevens Championship Despite Early Setback

In a remarkable turnaround, Uganda’s senior rugby team, the Lady Rugby Cranes, emerged victorious at the 2023 women’s Safari Sevens tournament, securing a notable win against Kenya.

With a hard-fought 15-12 victory over the Kenyan team, the Lady Rugby Cranes showcased exceptional prowess and resilience, earning praise from their coach Charles Onen. The coach commended captain Peace Lekruru and the team’s key scorers, Lydia Nakuya and Agnes Namabiro, for their pivotal contributions that led Uganda to clinch the championship.

Coach Charles Onen highlighted the team’s dedicated training regimen over the past five months, both in residential and non-residential environments, emphasizing the preparation and effort that culminated in this significant triumph.

In response, Captain Peace Lekruru expressed deep gratitude to Coach Ben and Coach Onen for their unwavering support, acknowledging the instrumental roles they played in the team’s journey to success.

Peace Lekuru’s exceptional performance did not go unnoticed, as she was honored as the Most Valuable Player and Top Try Scorer of the tournament. Coach Charles Onen lauded Lekuru’s leadership, praising her resilience in guiding the team through obstacles, setbacks, and losses, ultimately steering them to a resounding victory.
