Jonah Ssebamanya, the director of King’s Palace Primary School in Luwero town council, has been apprehended by authorities on charges of defiling six underage pupils. The victims, aged between 13 and 17 years, were allegedly sexually abused by Ssebamanya over a period spanning from October to September this year.

According to the Savannah Regional Police spokesperson, Sam Twiineamazima, an impregnated student was reportedly forced to undergo an abortion under Ssebamanya’s supervision. Three out of the six victims underwent medical examinations, confirming the sexual abuse. Joyce Namigadde, the district probation officer for Luwero, revealed that one of the victims sought Ssebamanya’s assistance to terminate her pregnancy.

Upon receiving complaints, the police swiftly acted, resulting in the gathering of statements from the victims, parents, and the accused director at Luwero central police station. Investigations are now underway to shed light on the matter and determine the veracity of the allegations.

Ssebamanya, however, maintains his innocence, asserting that his business rivals are behind the accusations made against him. Reports suggest that he collapsed while in custody at Luwero police station, further complicating the ongoing investigation.

In 2022, a total of 8,960 cases of defilement were reported to the police, compared with 10,653 cases reported in 2021, according to the Uganda Police Force annual crime report 2022. Luwero district, where Bombo town is located, was ranked second among districts with the highest number of aggravated defilement cases.
