The Minister for Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, authorised the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) to cancel the results of 55 candidates over examination malpractice.

In her speech read by the State Minister for Higher Education, Chrysostom Muyingo, at the release of the July–August 2023 UBTEB examination results on Thursday, November 2, 2023, in Kampala, she stressed that the ministry does not tolerate any form of malpractice.

“I have taken note of the 55 candidates whose results have been recommended by the board for cancellation due to involvement in examination malpractices. I agree with the board’s recommendation that the results of the affected candidates be cancelled,” Minister Museveni said.

She appreciated the strategies being put in place by UBTEB to curb examination malpractice.

The UBTEB Executive Secretary, Onesmus Oyesigye, said that the 55 candidates were found guilty after a fair hearing and urged heads of Technical  and Vocational Training Institutions (TVETs) to ensure thorough checking of students to minimise cases of examination malpractice. He continued that, if dealt with, it will help the country nurture skilled and competent professionals who will provide quality service delivery.

A total of 3,051 candidates from 36 examination centres registered for the 2023 UBTEB examinations, though 2,615 turned up, representing 81% of the registered number.
