Four Kyambogo students who were arrested on September 15, 2023, were granted bail by Buganda Road Court on September 21, 2023.
Siena Owomugisha, the Grade One magistrate, granted cash bail of 300,000 UGX to the suspects, Benjamin Akiso, Wasswa Alex, Abduh Twaib Magambo, and Kajubi Maktum.
The students were arrested at Parliament while contesting the decision of some banks to finance the East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project (EACOP) that will run from Hoima District in mid-western Uganda.
Prosecution led by Ms. Lydia Nakato stated that on September 15, 2023, the students committed an authorised act on the streets by causing inconvenience to the public in the exercise of common rights.
The suspects are expected to return to court on October 11, 2023, for further mention of their case.
