Jimmy Spire Ssentongo, an academician and renowned cartoonist, is not a happy man after the National Unity Platform (NUP), leaders hijacked his manifesto and used it without his permission or paying for it.

A source in NUP revealed to this publication that all the plans and ideas Bobi Wine was putting across while moving around were Spire’s.

“Before the tours, Bobi Wine invited Spire to his home at Magere and requested that he joins the country tours because his popularity on social media had grown; he declined and informed Bobi Wine that he too was interested in launching his own political career,” revealed the source.

The source noted that, half way through the tours, Spire called Bobi Wine, had a very bitter exchange with him, and referred to Bobi Wine as a fake and a cheat, accusing him of hijacking his manifesto and using it.

Spire, who makes a living mainly from drawing cartoons, standup comedy, and one of his most recent sources of income—social media exhibitions, which he uses to threaten and blackmail people and institutions, has been paving his way into politics indirectly.

According to Mugisha Aron, an accountant in one of the ministries in the country, Spire benefits a lot from these exhibitions. He blackmails government officials by threatening to expose them in his upcoming political campaigns.

“Spire is building financial growth and political careers through these exhibitions,” Mugisha said.

However, according to Yusuf Sserunkuma, a political theorist, most people look at Spire as just an activist through his cartoons, but they are so wrong. Spire has been building a political career secretly through his cartoons and exhibitions.

“Spire believes that, once he declares his intention to join politics, he will have gained enough support to target the elites,” Sserunkuma said.

Several other people have used activism to launch political careers, like Spire has been doing.
