Police in Kanungu has arrested and chargedĀ  a 65-year-old mother on the grounds that her son defiled a 16-year-old girl.

It is alleged that Peace Mugisha was arrested on September 8, 2023, and thrown into a cell at Kanungu Police because her son Ezra Mugisha (27) defiled his girlfriend.

According to a source at Kanungu Police who preferred anonymity, Ezra has been in a police cell for a week now, but they went ahead to arrest the mother, asking that she first pay a certain amount of money.

“Peace has been arrested because police claim she can pay the UGX 9 million that is required to set them free,” the source said.

However, residents say that the victim of defilement and Ezra have been living together as a couple for a while, and the accusations come to them as a shock.

Ezra picked the girl from a bar where she was working as a bartender, where she agreed to live with Ezra. However, down the road, they had disagreements concerning the bride price, which prompted the girl to leave Ezraā€™s home.

Peace and Ezra both live in separate homes, however Police has shocked residents when it arrested Peace accusingĀ  her of aiding his son into defiling the victim. She is currently being held at Kanungu Police Station together with the son.

Procuring defilement contravenes section 127 of the Penal Code Act, which leads to imprisonment for five years.
