President Yoweri K. Museveni has urged politicians, especially National Resistant Movement (NRM) party flag bearers, to stop using money in politics so as to stay financially stable.
The President made this call on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, while addressing hundreds at Kololo Independent grounds in Kampala.
“I was in Kololo this afternoon, meeting with NRM party flag bearers and chairpersons from the five divisions of Kampala. My appeal to them is to stop using money in politics,” the president said.
President Museveni encouraged the NRM leaders to consistently convey NRM’s message to the people and their proposals; however, if they don’t elect them, they should move on and remain financially stable.
“It is a colossal mistake, counterproductive, and unnecessary. It will be good if the people listen to what these leaders are proposing and elect them. If they are not elected, they should move on, do other activities, and remain financially stable. They will come back to you if you consistently convey the message of the NRM,” the president added.
He challenged the leaders to follow his example noting that in his 63 years in politics, he has never had to sell property to facilitate his elections.
The president further called upon the leaders to promote government programmes and promote politics of unity among Ugandans to create a common market for good.
