The Commandant School of Engineering Kalama, Colonel Wilson Kabeera, has urged the newly passed-out combat engineers to use the package they received in the last six months and reflect the UPDF’s core values of discipline, resilience, and hard work.
Col. Kabeera, while speaking during the pass-out ceremony of Level III combat engineers, intake 17/23, at the School of Engineering, Kalama, on Friday, September 1, 2023, advised the graduates to internalise the lessons learned, especially discipline and political education, if they are to be better soldiers and citizens for a better Uganda.
“Your conduct in the field should reflect the school’s vision, which is to provide solutions to the commander’s decision. You are therefore not expected to be a problem in the field, but solution providers,” Col. Kabeera said.
According to Kabeera, the course participants were drawn from the Engineers Brigade and Special Forces Command.
The Commander 1 Infantry Division, Brigadier General Joseph Musoke Ssemwanga, who represented the Commander Land Force, Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, urged the trainees to maintain discipline if they are to serve and protect the country well.
Brig. Ssemwanga reminded the trainees that the UPDF was formed on strong ideological support that needs to be maintained. Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to the school’s commandant and instructors for their efforts in educating the engineers and for a job well done. He also expressed his admiration for the various field demonstrations that the students had put on display.
The trainees were taken through comprehensive training in core aspects of combat engineering that include organisation, demolition, water supply, mine warfare, bridging, sanitation, marksmanship, political education, financial literacy, and urban mobility breaching, among others.
A total of 151 combat engineers successfully completed a six-month Combat Engineering Level III intake 17/23.
Col. RC Wakayinja, the Brigade Commander of the Engineers Brigade, Col. Tumuranzye, the Course Coordinator for the School of Engineering, Maj. Fred Olimani, as well as representatives from Uganda Police and Prisons, were present at the event.
