The Rwenzururu Kingdom is seeking 9 billion shillings to restore the palace and to purchase property for the Omusinga. The money is meant to help in organising the homecoming ceremony of the Omusinga Wesley Mumbere, the coronation, and the purchase of a house and a car for the King, among others.
Rwenzururu people are brimming with anticipation for the Omusinga’s return to his throne. They began getting ready for his arrival and appointed Dr. Nathaniel Walemba Mumbere Irengoma to lead the committee that developed the restoration plan and its accompanying budget.
While speaking to journalists on August 31, 2023, Mulemba said that Omusinga is expected to return home on October 4, 2023, and preparations for his return are underway.
“The current plan is for him to return on the 4th of October this year. We are doing everything within our power to ensure that that happens. To a community such as ours, 9 billion shillings are required for the home coming for the event, for the coronation and anniversary, for the purchase of property, a house, and a car,” Walembe said.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, aka Bobi Wine, while addressing the people of Kasese district during his Western Uganda tour, said that his party will contribute over 10 million shillings to the cause.
On June 14, 2023, the International Crimes Division of the High Court Judge Alice Komuhangi ordered his release and that of over 200 of his co-accused subjects. This is after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) lost interest in the case and withdrew all charges against him.
