The Crime Intelligence Directorate (CID) Police have in custody 39-year-old Congolese refugee Wasekeyi Ndahule over a grenade explosion that destroyed his house in Nakulabye, Kampala, at 4:30 a.m.

According to SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, crime scene officers, forensics teams, and counterterrorism officers discovered different items of evidence value after a robust combing of Ndahule’s place of residence.

“Our teams recovered two passports, one for the DRC and another for Burundi, in the suspect’s possession. However, investigations have so far indicated that the suspect is a Congolese refugee who sneaked the handheld grenade all the way from Congo into Uganda,” Enanga said on Monday.

He added that, whereas the suspect first denied and insisted the grenade was hurled at him by an unknown person, evidence of a safety pin found in the house linked him to the explosive.

While speaking to journalists at the police headquarters in Naguru Kampala, Enanga stated that Wasekeyi will be interrogated to ascertain his motive, stating that he is already charged with being in possession of a dangerous explosive.

This scenario has raised the eyebrows of football lovers who always gather mostly on weekends to watch the ongoing English Premier League in different social settings like halls and clubs, among others.

Police released new guidelines for entertainment venue managers to abide by, including the use of CCTV cameras, hiring a security manager, and having enough staff, among other things, a day before the start of the premier league.

However, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) recently stated that over 500 ADF militants were killed and various weapons were captured as part of the militant operation Shujja.
