Maj. Bilal Katamba, the spokesperson of the UPDF mountain division and Operation Shujaa, said the joint forces engaged a group of about 10 to 15 ADF militants in the areas of Talia, North Kivu Province, on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at about 10:00 a.m.

He added that a significant number of weapons and ammunition were recovered from the rebel camp.

“We were able to recover several rounds of ammunition, in total we got 8 weapons, including 7Mgs,one PMK and 155 rounds of ammunition of SMG,” Maj. Katamba said.

Katamba also revealed that, the joint forces had earlier on July 29, 2023, put out of action another ADF rebel in the areas of Ndalia, northeast of Tingwe in DRC.

The successful operation follows the tragic attack on Mpondwe Lhubiriha secondary school in Kasese district on June 16, 2023 where suspected ADF rebels crossed over from DR Congo and mercilessly killed schoolchildren, resulting in the deaths of 38 students and 6 members of the neighbouring community.
