Hon. Margaret Muhanga, the State Minister for Primary Healthcare, has today July 26, 2023, received a mobile laboratory from the European Union on behalf of the Ministry of Health at the Ministry’s offices in Kampala.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Health, I have received a mobile laboratory, worth 167,300 Euros, from the European Union,” Muhanga said.

The European Union donated the mobile laboratory to the Ministry of Health as part of the ongoing European Union-funded programme to support countries in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) region to strengthen surveillance and the health care system.

The IGAD region stretches over an area of 5.2 million square kilometres and comprises countries like Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda.

The central strategic role of IGAD is to promote regional cooperation and integration among its member states with the aim of improving the welfare of all citizens. To achieve this, IGAD works through the two programme areas of trade, industry, and tourism and infrastructure development.
