Suspected UNRF Rebel Group Member Arrested

The Joint Security Task Force of the Police and Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces(UPDF) has arrested one of the members of a self-styled rebel group, Uganda National Rescue Front 11 (UNRF).

The rebel suspect was arrested on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

SCP police spokesperson Fred Enanga identified the suspect as Bashir Surundu, a 21-year-old resident of Ayago Village, Okuyo Parish, in Obongi District.

“The disgruntled group has been responsible for several armed robberies and violent attacks in Yumbe and Obongi districts,” said Enanga.

According to SCP Enanga, the suspect, upon interrogation, admitted to being a rebel who was in search of food at the River shore to take for his colleagues, whom he revealed to be Renda Adinani of Kulubi, Akange Thuthu of Tikijire, Jamali of Tikijire, and an unnamed boy, all of Yumbe district, Ngulu residents of Waka, Itula sub-county in Obongi.

‘The suspect was handed over to the UPDF for further interrogation at Kulukulu barracks, and their commanders on the wanted list are Aris Jabinu and Yassin Ssadala Dinga,” Enanga said.

The Police extended a vote of appreciation and thanks to the community of Parolinya landing site for their vigilance, which led to the arrest of the suspect.

The police also thanked the youth for rejecting calls to join and participate in violent hostilities against Uganda.
