Dr. Col. Kizza Besigye, a four time Presidential Candidate on the FDC ticket, in a bid to counter the Najjanakumbi Faction (Amuriat, Nandala), has hired goons to stop the forthcoming National Council meeting scheduled for July 28, 2023, at the FDC headquarters.

According to Moses Mugume, the deputy secretary for mobilisation, the team at Katonga will stop at nothing to prevent the Najanakumbi team from holding that meeting, even if it means employing underhanded means or violence.

“Their fear stems from knowing that the Nandala’s group will gain more ground in that meeting, because it will be a platform for Nandala and Amuriat to defend their interests which have continued to fuel the scuffles in the party,” Mugume said.

Mugume added that Besigye will not afford to see the meeting take place since most of the FDC members of parliament have decided to side with Amuriat and Nandala, which places the Katonga team at a disadvantage.

“Should the National Council meeting take place on July 28, Besigye’s Katonga group will have lost power over the party, and the only option they may be left with is to join the National Unity Platform or form a new political party,” he said.

According to Nandala, Besigye has been holding clandestine meetings to coach some leaders of the FDC Youth League on how to mobilise more youths to violently stop the meeting on Friday, July 28.

No wonder, on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, the FDC Youth League held a press conference at the party offices at Katonga Road, demanding the resignation of Nathan Nandala Mafabi before the National Council meeting.

On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, while appearing on one of the local televisions, Nandala said that Lukwago and Ssemujju hired goons who harassed journalists last week at Najjanankumbi with the aim of blackmailing the leadership of FDC.

Dr. Besigye, Ssemujju Nganda, Erias Lukwago, and other members of the Katonga faction have demanded the immediate resignation of Nandala Mafabi and Amuriat, accusing them of dictatorship and dealing with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), which has swallowed their darling party, FDC.
