Former Forum For Democratic Change President Gregory Mugisha Muntu’s new political party, Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) has finally been duly registered by the Electoral Commission.
ANT’s strategists have been running its preparatory activities of mobilisation and marketing under an organization, named New Formation.
September 27, 2018, two days after he announced he had quit FDC, Muntu said he would form a new political party. Himself and a few of FDC’s big wigs had chosen to defect from a party they had served with diligence and dedication for decades.
Political pundits say he quit after failure to harmonize ideological differences that culminated from the heated party presidential election that saw Muntu trailing after his contender Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) in 2018. He would eventually lose the coveted seat he futilely tried to hold on to, to POA, the reigning FDC president. They say, with the successful registration of ANT, a new dawn in the opposition political spheres has come.
Muntu could not hide his excitement as he confirmed that his new party had finally been registered by the Electoral Commission, ahead of the next general elections in 2021.
“Today we received our certificate of registration as a party. I would like to thank everyone that has patiently worked towards this day, keeping their eyes focused not on the wavering shine of television cameras or the newspaper headlines that often distract us, but on achieving our stated goals”, he posted on his social media handles.
Earlier in March, Alice Alaso, ANT’s convener said the Electoral Commission had cleared all the processes for the party’s establishment and it only awaited to be gazetted.
She confirmed they are now looking forward to officially launching it.
“We shall be communicating the venue, date and time for its launch,” said Alaso.
Muntu had promised the party would be launched by 25th December 2018, but that did not come to pass due to delays by the verification process by the Electoral commission.
