The Judiciary’s spokesperson, Jameson Karemani, issued a statement Thursday evening, June 22nd, 2023, disputing rumors that Chief Justice (CJ) Alfonse Owiny Dollo, 69, was critically ill. He assured the public that the Chief Justice had moved abroad for medical treatment and would return to office soon.

“While it is true that the Chief Justice is out of the country receiving medical attention, it is not correct that he is critically ill at all.”

“We, therefore, wish to dispel the unfounded and exaggerated reports about his health and reassure the general public that the CJ will soon return and continue serving the people of Uganda,” Karemani said.

This follows false media claims that the Chief Justice was fighting for his life after missing some state functions.

The Judiciary has disputed claims that the Chief Justice is dangerously ill and urged the general public to remain calm and that the Chief Justice will return to office shortly, although his actual whereabouts and the hospital where he is undergoing treatment have not been divulged.
