πΊπ¬Β President Museveni opens 10-day NRM Parliamentary Caucus retreat
π President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially opened a 10-day NRM Parliamentary Caucus retreat at the National Leadership Institute (NALI), Kyankwanzi. Accompanied by the First Lady Janet Museveni, the President was Sunday received by Vice PresidentΒ (Rtd) Maj Jessica Alupo, the Prime Minister Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja, the NRM Secretary-General, Richard Todwong and the Government Chief Whip, Hon Hamson Obua. Obua said that the retreat will focus on the role of leaders in enhancing wealth creation, household income and socio-economic transformation of Ugandans.
πΊπ¬Β President Museveni underscores need for elections for peace and stability to prevail in Sudan
πAfrican Union leaders have reiterated their commitment to ensure that peace and stability are restored in the Republic of Sudan. During a Peace and Security Council virtual meeting held Sunday, the chairperson, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is also the Chairman of the Peace and Security Council emphasized the need for elections for peace and stability to prevail in Sudan.
βThis business of how to integrate armies is not new, we have done it in many parts of Africa including here in Uganda, it cannot be the reason for starting such a devastating war,β President Museveni said.
πΊπ¬Β Government to conduct mass Yellow Fever vaccination in six districts
πThe Ministry of Health, under the Uganda National Expanded Programme on Immunisation (UNEPI) will conduct a mass Yellow Fever vaccination campaign in the districts of Kabale, Kabarole, Lira, Gulu, Arua, and Hoima districts. The vaccination program, according to Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the Senior Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Health, will target people between the ages of nine months and 60.Β The campaign is scheduled to take place from June 9 to 13, 2023.

πThe Minister of Transport and works, General Katumba Wamala has commissioned MV Palm, the biggest ferry in Uganda.Β The state-of-the-art vessel accommodates 519 seated passengers and 25 cars. The ferry will beΒ connecting BuikweΒ and Buvuma districts. Ugandan National Roads Authority (UNRA) head of ferry services, Herbert Mutyaba said MV Palm ferry takes 15 minutes to dock which will ease movement by water across Buvumaβs 53 islands.

πKiira Region Police Spokesperson, ASP James Mubi has assured pilgrims of total Security through Jinja City and Jinja District. Mubi notes that they have intensified their patrol services using vehicles, motorcycles and foot patrols and that ambulances are readily available to evacuate pilgrims in case of any emergency through their way to Namugongo.Β Mubi warned those intending to cause havoc that they will be dealt with accordingly using the long arm of the law.

πΊπ¬ JINJA: Errant driver knocks down four pilgrims, arrested
πPolice in Jinja have arrested and detained one Yusuf Mugwa, 24 a driver of Isuzu forward vehicle UBE 168J for knocking and causing serious injuries to four pilgrims on Saturday at Mailo Mbili in Jinja City. Police confirmed that Taaka Winfred, 62, Nambuya Jennifer, 49, John Baptist Basole, 66 and Fred Elebo, 22, sustained injuries.
πΊπ¬Β WAKISO: USAID launches program to prevent new HIV infections among orphans and vulnerable children
π The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) in partnership with USAID has launched the USAID Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Inter-regional Activity to reduce vulnerability and prevent new HIV infections among orphans and vulnerable children and adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). Dr Martin Ssuuna, the Project Chief noted that the 5-year project worth $17.5 will focus on 11 districts in Uganda including Wakiso, Arua, Madi-Okollo, Nebbi, Pakwach, Kiryandongo, Masindi, Kikuube, Hoima, Kagadi, and Kibaale.

πThe Kapelebyong Chief Administrative Officer(CAO), David Lubuuka has disagreed with the District Service Commission (DSC) over the planned recruitment of new staff in the district. The district advertised 23 positions in media but the CAO has distanced himself saying that his office didnβt approve the advertisement. Herbart Otim, the Kapelebyong District Service Commission Chairperson also rubbished the CAOβs letter as baseless.

πΒ SUDAN: Gen Burhan wants UN to dismiss Envoy
π Sudanβs army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has accused UN special envoy Volker Perthes of siding with paramilitaries, the latest in a series of apparent moves to bolster his war effort. United Nations chief Antonio Guterres has said he was shocked by Burhanβs letter, which requested the nomination of a replacement to Perthes and accused him of committing fraud and disinformation in facilitating a political process which broke down into six weeks of devastating urban warfare.Β In the letter, Burhan accused Perthes of bias and not respecting national sovereignty.
π NIGERIA: Uhuru Kenyatta challenges President-elect to unite Nigerians
π Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has pointed out the importance of democracy in spurring development in any country, especially in the African Continent. Kenyatta made the remarks on Saturday, May 27 as he graced the 2023 Presidential Inauguration Lecture held at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, Nigeria. In his keynote address, Kenyatta called on Nigeriaβs President-elect, Bola Tinubu to unite every Nigerian irrespective of religion, tribe, political and other affiliations. He further urged him to embrace the inclusivity of all parties for a better Nigeria.
βThe contest is over, and the hard work of building a prosperous and unified Nigeria begins,β he said.
