πΊπ¬Β President Museveni advises Kalangala oil palm farmers to add poultry, animal husbandry to their enterprises
π President Museveni has urged the people of Kalangala to also embrace poultry, animal husbandry as extra enterprises, aside from Oil Palm growing so that they minimize the costs involved in buying fertilizers. The President was Friday addressing thousands of people including Oil Palm Growers under their umbrella body, Kalangala Oil Palm Growers Trust (KOPGT) at Kibanda Primary School grounds in Kalangala District.
πΊπ¬Β More soldiers dispatched to Somalia after Friday attack on ATMIS base
π Uganda has dispatched more soldiers to Somalia following a Friday morning attack by Al-Shabaab militants on its Army base. In a statement released Saturday by Brig. Felix Kulaigye, the Ministry of Defense Spokesperson, the latest deployment is under the leadership of Lt Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, the commander of Land Forces who will ascertain the circumstances under which the attack happened. Ugandan soldiers deployed under the African Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) were reportedlyΒ attacked in Somalia in the Lower Shabelle region. Four to six explosions were detonated, including improvised bombs in vehicles driven by suicide bombers. Wednesday deadline and will pay 100% surcharges in July.
πΊπ¬Β NEMA pushes for plastic recycling technology
π The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is advocating for an end to the production of plastics through recycling. NEMA Executive Director Dr. Akankwasa Barirega says water bottles are the most visible plastic pollutant in UgandaΒ because currently, there is no technology in Uganda that can recycle a water bottle into another water bottle. Akankwasa was speaking at the 4th edition of the private sector campaign dubbed βTaasa Obutondeβ which is led by Stanbic Bank, Uganda Breweries Limited and Next Media.
πΊπ¬Β UNEB notifies schools over Wednesdayβs registration deadline
π Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has put schools across the country on notice over the deadline for the registration of students for the forthcoming end-of-cycle examinations which is fast approaching. UNEB set May 31 as the deadline for the normal registration of candidates for Primary Leaving Examinations, Uganda Certification of Education, and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education. The UNEB Communication Officer, Jennipher Kalule, says that parents will be required to pay a 100 % surcharge for PLE and 50% for UCE and UACE if the candidates are registered in June after the official deadline.

π The Government of Uganda will supply South Sudan with basic commodities
due to the current high prices in South Sudan.Β A Ugandan delegation led by Lt. Gen. James Mugira on Friday discussed with South Sudanβs President Salva Kiir the plan to ensure a sufficient supply of basic commodities.Β Lt. Gen Mugira said the move is aimed at stocking South Sudanβs markets with basic commodities hence lowering the prices. The move comes as South Sudan currency has exponentially weakened against the US dollar resulting in high commodity prices.

π Government through the Ministry of Health has launched a boat ambulance to improve on service delivery to over 13 islands of Namayingo District. Rt Hon Kasule Lumumba, the Minister of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister Saturday presided over the launch at Buduma ferry docking site, Bukana sub county in Namayingo District. During her speech, she explained that the boat will provide health emergency services to 13 islands including; Lolwe , Siro, Hama, Sigilu , Biisa , Bukana, Wayasi, among others.

π Police has arrested a one Mukungu Jonah Emmanuel, 26, a resident of Kambede village, Kakira Town Council for poisoning and killing his two-year-old son, Kaluse Emmanuel before attempting to commit suicide by taking poison on Friday, May 26, 2023. Kiira Region Police spokesperson ASP James Mubi says that investigations have kicked off and that samples from the deceasedβs body were taken to the Government analytical laboratory in Wandegeya, Kampala to come up with a comprehensive report which will be documented on the case file.

π An angry mob in Nakalama village, Nakalama sub county in Bugweri District have lynched two suspected motorcycle thieves after trying to grab a motorcycle Bajaj boxer registration number UFR 201K from its rider. The suspects who lost their lives were identified as Muwaya Robert, 38, and Isabirye Latif Muto, 30, all residents of Busembatya in Bugweri District. Nakalama Sub-county chairperson Kawanguzi Hamidu Salongo comfirmed the incident.Β SP Diana Nandawula, the Busoga East police spokesperson says the Police has commenced with investigations into the beating and killing of these two people who were clobbered by locals.

π Benjamin Akampa, a suspect accused of stealing a Hisense flat-screen TV, was discovered dead inside Buyanja police station in Rukungiri District on Friday morning. ASP Elly Mate, the regional police spokesman in Kigezi, confirmed the incident and reported that the deceased, a resident of Kitojo Central, Bugyera parish, Buyanja sub-county had been apprehended and detained after he was accused of stealing a TV worth 1.6 million shillings that belonged to one Allan Atweeta.

πΒ SUDAN: Defence Ministry calls on retired soldiers to pick arms
π Sudanβs Defense Ministry has called on retired soldiers to arm themselves at the nearest military bases as sporadic clashes continue with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).Β Residents of the capital, Khartoum, say looting, kidnapping and sexual violence are on the rise despite the seven-day ceasefire currently in force.Β Fighting has also been reported in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur.Β Five former Sudanese rebel groups have deployed hundreds of their combatants to El Fasher to try and stop the violence.
πΒ SOMALIA: 30 Al-Shabaab militants killed in air strike after attack on ATMIS base
π Somali Security Forces, alongside international partners, carried out an airstrike attack in the Lower Shabelle region on Friday, killing at least 30 Al-Shabaab militants and destroying heavy weapons and vehicles of the retreating Al-Shabaab militants.Β The Government media emphasized that it was a coimter attack in response to the groupβs assault on a military base manned by African Union forces from Uganda in Bulo Marer, an agricultural town located 110 kilometers south of Mogadishu in the Lower Shabelle region.
