πŸ“ŒPresident Museveni has vowed to deal with individuals who sabotage Government projects. The President sounded the warning on Wednesday while officially launching the Presidential Skilling Industrial Hub at Ndegeya Village in Masaka City. The industrial hub aims at skilling disadvantaged youths who dropped out of school. The facility is among the 21 zonal industrial hubs constructed across the country to offer free life changing hands-on skills to jobless youths.

πŸ“ŒGovernment has started allowing pilgrims to resume using River Katonga Bridge on Kampala-Masaka highway as emergency restoration works go on. This came after the contractor, Chinese Communication Construction Company Ltd (CCCC) erected a temporary pedestrian crossing over the river. Rev Fr. Alfred Byarugaba, the leader of the pilgrims from Kinkiizi in Kanungu District said they are happy that they can now continue with their spiritual journey to Namugongo. Uganda National Roads Authority (Unra) in a tweet explained that the temporary pedestrian crossing at Katonga is only for pilgrims heading from Masaka direction to Kampala and that it will still be available on their return journey after Martyrs Day.

πŸ“ŒMinister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (Industry), Hon. David Bahati has said that Government is negotiating with the Algerian Government as an alternative market for Ugandan milk since the Kenyan Government recently reduced issuing export permits to Uganda’s powdered milk.
β€œWe are now in advanced stages of engaging Algeria. We are about to sign an agreement where Algeria is going to take a sizeable amount of litres of milk, and by finding alternative markets, taking advantage of the African Continental Free Trade area, then we will resolve this,” Bahati said.

πŸ“ŒThe Buganda Road Chief Magistrate, Ms Gladys Kamasanyu has released on bail, Stanely Kisambira, 46, the Judiciary driver who recently complained about a low salary in a viral WhatsApp recording. Magistrate Kamasanyu granted him a Ugx10 million non-cash bail and Ugx5 million non-cash bond for his sureties and ordered him to return to Court on June 12 for further mention of the case. Kisambira appeared in Court after spending three days in Luzira prison and was formally charged with promoting hate speech against judges.

πŸ“ŒPolice in Bulambuli District is hunting for one Dan Wetaka, 28, a resident of Simu sub-county, for allegedly assaulting his wife to unconsciousness following a dispute over Parish Development Model (PDM) money. The Resident District Commissioner of Bulambuli, Stanley Bayola, says that Wetaka violently beat his wife into coma accusing her of buying a cow without his approval as the head of the household, and failure to share any of the money with him. The woman is currently fighting for her life at Mbale Referral Hospital as the hunt for Wetaka continues.

πŸ“ŒPolice in Kiryandongo District has in their custody, a Crime Intelligence Officer attached to Bweyale Police Post in Kiryandongo on allegations of extorting money from criminal suspects. Ayangi Jimmy is currently in detention at Kiryandongo Central Police Station after he was arrested on Wednesday evening with extorted money worth Ugx300,000 from the mother of one suspect in custody identified as Kisembo, opting to sort out his case outside Police. Kisembo’s mother told police that the officer approached her privately and told her to cough Ugx400,000 to sort out her case which is still being investigated by Police. The Kiryandongo District Police Commander (DPC), Edison Muhangi, has said that Ayangi’s arrest came after numerous complaints from community members of Bweyale over his actions.

πŸ“ŒTea workers have appealed to the Government to put in place a minimum wage, because “they are currently given little pay which is not worth their labour”. The workers said low pay is one of the setbacks killing the tea industry. They made the appeal during celebrations to mark the International Tea Day organised by the National Union of Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union in partnership with Solidaridad and Trust Africa. The event took at Kyamuhunga Town Council in Bushenyi District.

πŸ“ŒFulgence Kayishema, one of four remaining fugitives who are said to have participated Β in the 1994 Rwanda genocide, has been arrested in South Africa. Kayishema, a former judicial police inspector, faces charges of genocide, complicity in and conspiracy to commit genocide, and crimes against humanity. He has been on the run since July 2001, according to the MICT website. He and others allegedly murdered more than 2,000 Tutsi men, women and children who had taken refuge in a Catholic church in Nyange in Kivumu District.

πŸ“Œ China’s embassy in Kenya has denied a Reuters news agency report that Chinese hackers attacked key state agencies in the capital, Nairobi, including the Presidency.Β  This was reportedly done to assess whether the East Africa nation would service billions of dollars owed to Beijing. But the Chinese embassy has said the report was β€œfar-fetched and sheer nonsense”, in a statement on Wednesday.Β  The embassy says it is a highly sensitive political issue to blame a certain Government for a cyber-attack without solid evidence.
β€œChina and Kenya are good friends, good partners and good brothers,” the embassy spokespersonΒ said.
