πΊπ¬ Kikagati power plant to generate over 110GWh of clean energy annually
πPresident Museveni and his counterpart Suluhu Samia of Tanzania have launched the Kikagati Hydro power plant in Isingiro District. The 16.5-MW hydro power station is on the Kagera River, along the Uganda-Tanzania border and is expected to generate over 110GWh of clean energy annually, which is enough power to meet the normal consumption of approximately 815,590 people in Uganda and Tanzania. H.E Suluhu noted that this project is going to contribute to the historic relations between the two countries.
“This commissioned Kikagati power plant has 16MW, but we have another 38 MW plant in Nshungyezi, just 11 miles downstream from here. We have agreed to include Rwanda to ascertain this effect”, President Museveni said.

πPresident Yoweri Museveni has commended Buganda Kingdom for joining the Governmentβs efforts to fight poverty and create wealth through developmental initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Presidential Zonal Industrial Hubs and Emyooga. In his remarks after commissioning the presidential skilling Industrial Hub for Greater Masaka at Ndegeya village in Masaka city, the President revealed that the former Kabaka of Buganda, Sir Edward Muteeesa was a very good friend and he was happy to note that even the current kingdom leadership has maintained good and strong ties with the Central Government. He said the Kingdom has immensely contributed to the development of Uganda. He thanked the Katikiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga for joining other leaders to launch the presidential industrial hub in Masaka.
πΊπ¬ Govt to construct more schools for refugee children
πGovernment plans to construct more schools and expand classroom space in the next three financial years for refugee host communities since the number increases every year. According to the plan, the Government is to recruit more teachers at both basic and secondary education levels to improve the student-teacher ratio for schools in the host communities. This will be achieved under the second phase for the Education Response Plan for refugees and host communities.
πΊπ¬ Uganda, South Sudan to conduct joint patrols along border
πUganda and South Sudan have agreed to conduct joint border patrols. According to Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson, the agreement was reached during a cross-border meeting between South Sudan and the joint security agencies from north West Nile, following a recent clash between the Kuku tribe of Kejokeji county in South Sudan and Madi/Aringr tribes of Moyo and Yumbe District in Uganda over boundaries. Over 200 homes were burnt during the clashes, which resulted in the displacement. Enanga said that resolutions were reached to maintain peace in the region and to oversee the resettlement of thousands of displaced people.

π The Parliament of Uganda has passed the long awaited Employment Amendment Bill, dropping the proposal to increase maternity leave for women that give birth to more than 1 child from 60 to 90 working days. The house has also declined to increase a number of days for paternity leave from 4 to 7 working days.

πΊπ¬ KAGADI: Wetland demarcation starts this week
πThe Ministry of Water and Environment in collaboration with the Kagadi District has commenced a physical demarcation of wetlands aimed at reducing encroachment and promotion of sustainable protection of wetlands in the district. The demarcation exercise has started with Hondwa wetland covering parts of Kagadi and Muhorro sub-counties. The senior Wetlands Officer in the Ministry of Water and Environment, Daniel Businge says that while creating the boundaries, 100 meters will respectively be cut off from every personβs plot neighboring a wetland, following the National Wetlands, River Banks and Lakeshores Management Act.

πPolice in Entebbe is investigating the fire that has gutted businesses, houses and boats at Ndese landing site in Kigungu in Entebbe municipality. The Mayor Entebbe B Division, Richard Ssekyondwa says the incident took place Thursday at around 11:00AM. Efforts by the Police Fire Brigade with the help of residents to control the fire were fruitless due to the heavy blowing wind from Lake Victoria.

πΒ TANZANIA: President Suluhu optimistic about bid to host AFCON 2027
πTanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan is optimistic about her country’s joint bid with Kenya and Uganda to host the 2027 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) saying that it will play a major role in promoting tourism in the region. The statement released on Wednesday said that the AFCON 2027 will also help boost different sectors of the economy.
“AFCON is watched by over one billion people in Africa and other parts of the world. The tournament is a platform for promoting tourism,” said Hassan, in a statement by the Directorate of Presidential Communications at the State House.
