🇺🇬 Deputy Speaker tips Ugandans to use vast freedoms in the country to develop themselves
📌The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has tipped Ugandans to use the vast freedom of speech available in the country to develop themselves rather than focus on destroying one another through hate speech. Tayebwa made the remarks as the Guest of Honor during the service to celebrate the 57th World Social Communications Day hosted by Kampala Archdiocese on Sunday. Tayebwa urged the church to preach peace and speak against bigotry, intolerance, and xenophobic media messages.

🇺🇬  Kuwait pledges to build a $200 Million Research University in memory of Iddi Amin
📌The Kingdom of Brunei has pledged to set up a research university worth Shs 747 Billion in memory of former President Iddi Amin Dada. Ali Amin, one of the sons of former President Amin who currently lives in Kenya says that while on a trip to Kuwait in the 1970’s, President Amin held a meeting with the King of Brunei, Hassan Bolkiah Ibni Omar Ali Saifuddien lll who agreed to fund a University that would advance research and Islamic theology teaching in Uganda. He adds that since he was overthrown before the project could start, the Brunei King has now agreed to kick start the process of constructing it and that the family is in contact with the Brunei kingdom officials to ensure the project succeeds.

🇺🇬 NEMA calls for joint efforts to protect environment 
📌Ugandans have been advised to take collective responsibility on protecting the environment than wait for Government intervention. During an interview on Monday, Francis Ogwal, the senior manager for environment planning and coordination at NEMA said it is very important for every individual to be conscious of the way they utilise the environment. Ogwal says environmental management becomes increasingly challenging as the world population grows.

🇺🇬 Police arrests stepmother for feeding child on human waste
📌Police in Busoga have in detention a 26-year-old housewife who was captured on a viral video allegedly forcing her stepson to consume his own waste. During a weekly security brief on Monday at the police headquarters in Kampala, SCP Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson explained that this act is an inhumane form of child abuse and torture. He lauded the person who recorded the video and shared it with the online community. The Police are planning to secure an emergency protective shelter for the minor as they look for a better home.

🇺🇬 ISINGIRO: Government expands piped water to cover 11 villages
📌The Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has commissioned a Shs4.5 billion water supply system in Bukanga constituency in Isingiro District. The project named Ruteete-Kibeba Water Supply and Sanitation Scheme is serving over 10,000 people and 11 villages that comprise both the host communities and Refugees in Nakivale settlement camp.

🇺🇬 RUKUNGIRI: Government delivers relief to River Rushaya-affected families
📌The Government through the Office of the Prime Minister has delivered relief items to nearly 400 households that were affected by water after River Rushaya in Bwambara sub-county burst its banks, killing three people and displacing many others on April 29, 2023. Security Minister, also the Rujumbura County MP, Jim Muhwezi, delivered the relief items on Sunday, May 14, which included 20,000kg of maize flour and 10,000kg of beans as well as 100 tarpaulins for those who lost their houses. Muhwezi said each of the families that lost a loved one will also receive Shs5 M plus other relief items.

🇺🇬 TORORO: Plans to market Tororo rock as tourism site underway
📌The Police in Tororo in partnership with Tororo media network have launched a campaign to have Tororo rock fully utilised to boost domestic tourism. The two agencies have agreed on a monthly hike as one of the ways in enhancing tourism.  This move comes at the time when the rock that serves as a defining feature of the town is not generating revenue at all.

🇺🇬 BUKWO: Cattle thief survives being lynched by angry residents
📌Police has rescued a suspected cattle thief, one Musobo Fred who was caught ferrying 3 heads of cattle to Kapsarur. The angry residents attempted to lynch him but he was saved by the Police. The suspect is a resident of Kapsikwa Village, Chesimat Parish, Kortek Sub County in Bukwo District.
“We managed to track the movements of the thief, who had stolen the animals from Kwosiris Sub County in Kween District and the suspect is under detention as investigations are ongoing. We went to the scene on time and took him to Bukwo General Hospital where he is nursing wounds, ” the Police said.

🇺🇬  TORORO: Old persons receive SAGE money
📌Every month, Government through SAGE programme gives Shs25,000 to every Ugandan aged 80 years above. Tororo District has at least 5,268 SAGE beneficiaries that received their monthly pay at Wikus Catholic Church. The district chairperson of the elderly appreciated the Government for the funds and said that the elderly can now afford the basic needs like sugar.
“In 2010, the Government started the SAGE program that supports older persons above the age of 80 to enable us to meet some basic needs where each beneficiary is entitled to 25,000 shillings each month” the chairperson of the elderly said.

🇺🇬 KANUNGU: Residents concerned over non beneficial irrigation project
📌Locals in Kanungu District have raised concern over the state of an irrigation project that was installed to power solar irrigation system citing that it has never pumped water. They are calling on officials from the State House to withdraw the equipment which they say has never benefited them.

🇺🇬 NAMISINDWA: Pastor found with stolen bull hidden in bedroom, survives lynching
📌 A pastor of Yesu Peke, Ezra Mayende and a resident of Makhonge village, Makhonge parish, Bukiabe Sub County has survived lynching after residents Sunday  found him with a stolen cow in his bedroom. According to Sunday Wakhata, an area resident, the animal was stolen from neighbouring Kenya and during a search carried out by local residents, the stolen bull was discovered in his bedroom.  He adds that locals armed with stones, bricks, and sticks among others wanted to lynch the pastor but he was saved by the Bukiabi Sub County, chairperson, Nicolas Soita.

🌍 KENYA: President Ruto receives ‘joint East African’ 2027 Afcon bid
📌 President William Ruto on Monday received Kenya’s joint bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) alongside neighbours Uganda and Tanzania. Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu and Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa presented the document to Dr. Ruto at State House, Nairobi.  Kenya has teamed up with neighbours Tanzania and Uganda in the plan dubbed the “Pamoja” bid to bring the coveted continental showpiece to the East Africa region for the first time in history.   The President mandated Sports CS Ababu Namwamba to engage his counterparts from Uganda and Tanzania so that the three East African nations can successfully win the bid to host the biggest football competition in the continent.

🌍 SUDAN: General Burhan freezes bank accounts of RSF Group
📌 Sudan’s army chief Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on Sunday issued a directive to freeze the bank accounts of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) group and its affiliated companies.  In a number of decrees on Sunday, Gen Burhan also retired four military officers linked to the group.  One of the affected officers is Brig Gen Omar Hamdan Ahmed, a relative of RSF commander Gen Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, and who is currently heading a delegation of the paramilitary force for peace talks with Sudan’s army in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.  Gen Burhan also sacked central bank governor Hussain Yahia Jankol and appointed Borai El Siddiq in his place.

🌍 South Africa will stay neutral on Ukraine war – President Ramaphosa
📌 South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has said there is extraordinary pressure on the country to abandon its non-aligned position on the war in Ukraine. President Ramaphosa said South Africa would not take sides in what he said was in effect a contest between Russia and the West.  His comments come days after the US ambassador to South Africa, Reuben Brigety, accused the country of secretly providing arms and ammunition to Russia, despite its professed neutrality.
