Simon Mukhama; The Bible Society General Secretary Dies at 54

The Uganda Bible Society Secretary General, Simon Mukhama, has died at the age of 54 at Mengo Hospital, where he had been taken after feeling unwell.

The news of his passing was broken on Friday, May 12, 2023, by All Saints’ Cathedral Nakasero, Kampala, on their Twitter handle.

“It’s sad to learn of the passing on of the General Secretary of the Bible Society of Uganda, Mr. Simon Mukhama, this morning. May God comfort the family, the Bible Society family, and all people of God,” All Saints’ Cathedral, Kampala, tweeted.

One of his close associates has revealed that Mukhama has headed the Uganda Bible Society for 10 years, where he saw the braille Bible for the blind. He was credited with launching a bilingual Bible in Spanish and English, which was later presented to Pope Francis by President Museveni when the Pope made a visit to Uganda in 2012.

Simon Mukhama had been married to Ruth Mukhama and had four children. The couple was preparing to celebrate the Silver Jubilee marriage anniversary on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, Mukhama’s close friend, who preferred anonymity, disclosed

Mukhama was a Mugisu born in Mbale and has been in church leadership for years.

Mukhama’s burial arrangements will be communicated in due course.
