πŸ“ŒMTN Uganda has donated Shs20M towards the smooth running of this year’s Martyrs’ Day celebrations. MTN has handed over UGX 20 million to the Jinja Catholic Diocese as they prepare for the celebrations. According to Adams Kibet,Β  the acting Chief Commercial Officer, the Jinja Pilgrims will also be given reflector jackets and water at different stopping places.

πŸ“ŒLocal governments across the country have been given up to September to put in place action plans to mitigate and adapt to the negative effects of climate change. The National Climate Change Act of 2021 mandates local governments to develop their own District Climate Change Action Plans (DCCAP) to manage the impacts by way of planning and budgeting for development.
Mr. Emmanuel Tenywa, the Ministry of Water and Environment programme officer on climate change saysΒ  that the arrangement seeks to customise and manage the negative effects of climate change in the respective areas.

πŸ“ŒParliament has held a special sitting to pay tribute to Charles Okello Engola, the fallen employment and industrial relations State Minister. Engola, who doubled as the MP for Oyam district, was gunned down by his bodyguard, Wilson Sabiiti on Tuesday last week, at his home in Kyanja, Kampala. The motion for a resolution of Parliament to pay tribute to the late was moved by Prime Minister Robinnah Nabbanja and seconded by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament Mathias Mpuuga.

πŸ“ŒPolice in Namisindwa District have arrested a one Robert Mubumba who admitted to have killed and buried his wife in a pit latrine around their home in the month of March and later grew maize and beans around to hide evidence. After thorough police investigation, the body was discovered, retrieved and taken to the family members who rejected the body and asked for compensation of 3 million Ugandan shillings from the killer before they could receive the corpse. The police Β  later took the body to Mbale city Mortuary for postmortem.

πŸ“ŒThe territorial Police in Luweero District has launched an investigation into the murder of one Joyce Nambalirwa, 50, who was allegedly killed by her husband Christopher Makubuya after a nasty fight. The couple who lived in Waluleeta, Makulibita sub county had spent one year in marriage without a child. Makubuya had divorced the first woman with whom they had children.

πŸ“ŒAn Β angry mob have stormed Namwiwa Police Post in Bukunya village, Kaliro District in eastern Uganda, lynching Bingwa Muhairwe, a suspected witch doctor who was arrested on Saturday evening on allegations of exhuming the remains of one Hawa Natwoli. The locals stormed the Police post at a time when only one unarmed constable was on standby outside the cells, overpowered him and proceeded to chop Muhairwe to death. Rashid Baganzi, the area LC I chairperson, revealed that five families had registered complaints of their loved ones’ remains being exhumed in the past two months. Busoga North police spokesperson, Michael Kasadha, confirmed the incident and that investigations are underway.

πŸ“ŒSoroti Regional Referral Hospital has received and installed the computed tomography (CT) scan machine. The machine is used to detect bone and joint problems like complex bone fractures and tumours. The machine is a combination of X-rays and a computer to create pictures of the organs.Β  Dr. Wilson Etolu, a physician and consultant in the hospital confirmed its installation by the Ministry of Health. He says the machine is now functional and operational to serve patients.
β€œOur CT scan machine is now fully installed; this is a huge relief for our patients. Thank you, Ministry of Health,” Dr. Etolu said.

πŸ“ŒHenry Kabulo, the Education officer, Bugiri District has urged the parents to safeguard their children from risky places such as the sugar factory during this holiday. The warning came as a result of the complaints that children gather around the factory on a daily basis exposing them to risks such as early teenage pregnancies and high crime rates.

πŸ“ŒSouth Sudan’s acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Deng Dau Deng has denied reports that the Government breached the sanctions and arms embargo imposed on the country since 2018.
β€œWe have not purchased any weapons as a country’’, Deng said. Deng Dau Deng’s remarks followed a new report by the UN Panel of Experts on South Sudan which indicated that Juba violated the existing arms embargo by procuring new armoured personnel carriers. South Sudan has been prohibited from buying firearms and military hardware in a bid to stifle the conflict that existed at the time.

πŸ“ŒSomalia’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISA) successfully prevented a planned terrorist attack on Mogadishu’s Peace Garden on Monday. The operation led to the seizure of explosive vests and a Bajaj motorcycle intended for use in the attack.
