President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has given the sum of one hundred thirty-one million shillings to people affected by the landslides in the Kigezi and Ntoroko sub regions.

On Monday, the President announced that he had ordered the State House Controller to deliver shillings five million each to some 23 families who lost relatives and shillings one million each to 16 people who were injured during the landslides.

“Ugandans, condolences on losing 23 people and 16 injured on account of the landslides and floods in the areas of Kigezi and Ntoroko. I have directed the State House Comptroller to give Shs. 5 million each to the families of those who died and Shs. 1 million each to those who were injured,” the President said.

The President emphasized the need to observe the environmental requirements and further warned that there should be no buildings or gardens 50 meters from river banks, 200 meters from the lake shore, or on hills with a gradient greater than 30 degrees.

Ntoroko keeps being affected by floods every rainy season, leaving property destroyed and many displaced.
