Uganda is blessed with beautiful wildlife that is mostly found in national parks. One of these national parks is Lake Mburo National Park. Lake Mburo National Park is the closest national park to Kampala; it also doubles as the smallest national park in the country.

Activities at Lake Mburo National Park

  1. Wildlife Game drive viewing

This is the best activity at Lake Mburo National Park and can be done on several means of transport, such as a safari vehicle, quad bikes, or horseback riding. The wild game drive offers a great chance to view different wildlife species such as impalas, zebras, road antelopes, leopards, lions, hyenas, bush babies, porcupines, buffaloes, etc.

  1. Sport Fishing

Sport fishing can be conducted in all lakes in and around the park, but mostly at Lake Mburo, which is the largest and attracts the greatest number of fishermen. Tourists are required to acquire a fishing permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority and to also carry their fishing equipment if they are to enjoy the sport. Lake Mburo has six major types of fish, including tilapia, lungfish, mudfish, and many more.

  1. Birding

Lake Mburo National Park hosts over 350 bird species, including green pigeons, double-toothed barbets, crested cranes, saddle-billed storks, and others. Tourists who are interested in birding visit the park and enjoy seeing beautiful bird species.

  1. Boat cruises

The park sounds with five lakes located within it, and boat cruises can be carried out on any of them. You can enjoy your cruise on Lake Mburo and get a chance to view flora and fauna as well as different animals along the water banks of the lake, mostly during the dry season, when hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, and antelopes can be clearly viewed trying to re-hydrate in water.

  1. Horseback riding

Lake Mburo National Park is the only park in Uganda where you can encounter the park in its full beauty while riding on a horse, which is a unique and rare experience. Horseback riding is one of the reasons visitors are increasing in this park each year.

  1. Bicycle Tours

Along bicycle trails, tourists view wide ranges of antelopes, buffaloes, zebras, and many more. Such tours are guided by a tour ranger who answers any questions and keeps tourists out of harm’s way.

  1. Guided nature walks

Guided walks carried out in the park cover several trails, like the salt lick, where tourists are able to sight-see wide ranges of wild game licking the salty residues. You can also hike further through woodlands, where you are able to view different bird species, mammals, and many lakes inside and outside the park, all with the help of guides.

Please book your next trip and visit Lake Mburo National Park to enjoy the beauty Uganda has to offer.
