Police Officers Skilled in Anti-Human Trafficking and SGBV

Yesterday, May 2nd 2023, a total of 26 police officers completed the 10-day training on anti-human trafficking and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), which was held at the Maria Flow Hotel in the Greater Masaka region.

The training aimed at establishing and strengthening the capacities of police officers to effectively respond to trafficking in persons and gender-based violence in communities.

Dr. Kayongo Aisha, the Superintendent of Police, represented the Director Human Resource Development (HRD). In her remarks, SP Kayongo thanked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Director HRD for their permission to hold such trainings.

SSP Alfred Bagambaki, the Regional Police Commander of Masaka Region, urged the trainees to utilize the knowledge they acquired effectively for the benefit of Wanainchi.

The director of Okoa Refugee Camp, Kalanda Kalanda, said that they need to work together to fight human trafficking and sexual gender-based violence.

“We need to work together in order to fight human trafficking and sexual gender-based violence in our communities by empowering the police, which is at the forefront of maintaining law and order in our country,” said Kalanda.

The training was organized by the Directorate of Human Resource Development and Training at the Uganda Police Force in collaboration with the Sentinel Foundation of the United States of America and Okoa Refugee Camp.
