🇺🇬 President Museveni dubs West Nile model farmer his co- teacher
📌President Museveni has applauded model farmers in West Nile, among them, Mr Aliamoi Swaib and his family for following his advice of adopting modern commercial and calculated farming that has propelled model farmers in the area into the money economy. Mr Swaib, whom the President referred to as his co-teacher, is a model farmer who grows cassava, oranges and rears goats on a 53-acre piece of land in Abario Cell – Rhino Camp Town Council.

🇺🇬 New Katuna border post eases trade and movement
📌Residents along Katuna border are filled with joy as they can easily access both countries without much hustle. Nyiimanzi Joseph, a local resident says they can easily transit through the Gatuna and Katuna border posts in Rwanda and Uganda respectively. He says since the operationalization of the border point, long queues and inconveniences involved in clearing twice have been solved. The one-stop-border-post at Katuna border post in Kabale District was constructed in October last year.

📌The Minister for Karamoja affairs Hon. Mary Gorreti Kitutu has Wednedsay been denied bail. Kitutu is battling charges of loss of public property, contrary to section 10(1) of the Anti-corruption Act 2009, and Conspiracy to defraud, contrary to section 309 of the penal code act.

🇺🇬 Schools in Eastern Congo close due to war
📌Since January 2022 over 2,100 schools in the Eastern Republic of Comgo have had to close because of armed conflict revealed UNICEF. According to Thomas Tumusifu Buregeya a student who missed studying for his final school exams. “When from this camp I see … finalists like me, it makes my heart ache, I wonder when I will finish my studies, the years are going,” said Buregeya. He is one of the 750,000 young Congolese whose schooling is currently disrupted by insecurity in the eastern provinces of North Kivu and Ituri, the United Nations children’s agency (UNICEF) estimated in late March.

🇺🇬 Entebbe Zoo requires Shs 20 Billion additional funding
📌The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) is seeking an additional Ugsh 20 Billion to carry out planned activities that have not been provided for in the budget. James Musinguzi, the UWEC Executive Director was Tuesday appearing before Parliament’s Tourism Committee to present the 2023/2024 ministerial policy statement. The UWEC Executive Director James Musinguzi says Shs 4 Billion is for funding  the construction of a wall fence along the Entebbe Zoo so as to protect occupants of State House Entebbe and surrounding areas from stray wild animals.

🇺🇬 URA hands over motor vehicle registration to Ministry of Works
📌Uganda Revenue Authority has handed over the registration and licensing of motor vehicles to the  Ministry of Works and Transport  after 30 years of manning the function. The move follows a Government decision to transfer the administration and management of the Motor Vehicle Registration from the Revenue body to the Works Ministry as mandated under the Traffic and Road Safety Act. The Act mandates MoWT to manage and administer all motor vehicles, During the  handover ceremony, the Minster of Works and Transport Gen. Katumba Wamula, described the move to have the function under the Ministry as one that is strategic for regulation and follow-up of automobiles’ lifecycle on Ugandan roads.
“The Ministry will streamline and facilitate motor vehicle registration and also make sure that we keep clean records from the time an auto mobile sets onto the road until the time it finally gets off,” Gen Katumba explained.

🇺🇬 BULIISA: Bugungu Secondary School roof blown off  by heavy wind
📌Teachers and students of Bugungu Secondary School in Kisasya East, Kigwera Sub County, Buliisa District survived death after a Tuesday evening heavy hailstorm accompanied by gusty winds blew off the roof of the school buildings. The school headteacher, Mr Mbabazi Charles noted that heavy downpour uprooted three block buildings at the school, one staff quarter block of three rooms, two dormitory blocks of six rooms and a school kitchen. Mbabazi appealed to the District officials and the Ministry of Education and Sports to come to their rescue.

🇺🇬 KAMWENGE: Man attempts to burn church on Easter
📌 Bwambale Sadadi, 28, was arrested for attempting to burn a church in Kamwenge District with petrol in a plastic bottle over the Easter weekend. Bwambale Sadadi, a resident of Kilembe quarters, Kamiba ward, Kasese Municipality, in Kasese District, attempted to set ablaze mortorcycles in the parking lot with a petrol bomb during night prayers at Nabi church in Biguli cell, Biguli ward in Kamwenge District. Three motorcycles under registration numbers UEC 288D, UDT 809U, and UDL 356B, were slightly damaged.
“The suspect and his accomplice tried to escape using their motorcycle under registration number UFE 568A, Bajaj Boxer, red in color but they were aggressively pursued by the church security guard. Bwambale was arrestdd but his accomplice escaped,” said an eye witmess.

🌍 KENYA: Healthcare workers give Government 7-day ultimatum
📌Kenyan healthcare workers, in a joint statement read by Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah on Tuesday, vowed to lay down their tools if they’re not paid their dues within the next 7 days.
“The Ministry of Health should constitute a joint national taskforce to do a health audit and provide long-term solutions to the numerous challenges facing health service delivery in Kenya. Within 7 days, counties that shall have not paid the salaries and statutory deductions should not expect healthcare workers to report on duty.” Dr Atellah said.

🌍 KENYA: Azimio to hold public barazas as they wait on Government talks
📌Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition is set to begin holding town hall meetings and public barazas even as they wait on talks with the Government to commence. The party executive Council Chairman Wycliffe Oparanya said the first baraza will be held on Sunday, April 16 at the Kamukunji Grounds.
“The purpose of the town hall meetings and public barazas is to enable the party explain to the people where we are and the upcoming course of action following the suspension of protests,” Oparanya said.

🌍 UN wants Sudan Govt to investigate ‘death threat’ against its Envoy
📌The United Nations says it is deeply concerned by a video of a man publicly calling for the killing of its representative in Sudan, Volker Perthes. In the video recording which has been circulating on social media,  an elderly Sudanese man verbally abuses the UN official and then asks for a fatwa for him to be killed. The man accuses Mr Perthes of interfering in the country’s politics. The UN has urged Sudanese authorities to investigate the incident.

🌍 Ecowas calls for release of abducted women and children in Nigeria
📌West African bloc, Ecowas, has condemned the kidnapping of 80 people last week in northern Nigeria. Many of those abducted in Zamfara state were women and children who were collecting firewood. In a statement, Ecowas called for the immediate release of children.  Zamfara State has suffered many kidnappings, often for ransom, by armed criminal gangs. The incident is the latest in a wave of violent crime in Nigeria.

🌍  US wants EU to declare Iran’s Revolutionary Guards a Terrorist Group
📌A bipartisan group of more than 130 US Congress members have signed a joint letter calling on the European Union to designate Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization. In the letter addressed to EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, the lawmakers say Iran is a leading State sponsor of terror and that for decades the IRGC has freely and openly carried out plots targeting citizens in countries across the EU.
