πŸ“ŒUganda Revenue Authority has handed over the registration and licensing of motor vehicles to theΒ  Ministry of Works and TransportΒ  after 30 years of manning the function. The move follows a Government decision to transfer the administration and management of the Motor Vehicle Registration from the Revenue body to the Works Ministry as mandated under the Traffic and Road Safety Act. The Act mandates MoWT to manage and administer all motor vehicles, During theΒ  handover ceremony, the Minster of Works and Transport Gen. Katumba Wamula, described the move to have the function under the Ministry as one that is strategic for regulation and follow-up of automobiles’ lifecycle on Ugandan roads.
“The Ministry will streamline and facilitate motor vehicle registration and also make sure that we keep clean records from the time an auto mobile sets onto the road until the time it finally gets off,” Gen Katumba explained.

πŸ“ŒTeachers and students of Bugungu Secondary School in Kisasya East, Kigwera Sub County, Buliisa District survived death after a Tuesday evening heavy hailstorm accompanied by gusty winds blew off the roof of the school buildings. The school headteacher, Mr Mbabazi Charles noted that heavy downpour uprooted three block buildings at the school, one staff quarter block of three rooms, two dormitory blocks of six rooms and a school kitchen. Mbabazi appealed to the District officials and the Ministry of Education and Sports to come to their rescue.

πŸ“Œ Bwambale Sadadi, 28, was arrested for attempting to burn a church in Kamwenge District with petrol in a plastic bottle over the Easter weekend. Bwambale Sadadi, a resident of Kilembe quarters, Kamiba ward, Kasese Municipality, in Kasese District, attempted to set ablaze mortorcycles in the parking lot with a petrol bomb during night prayers at Nabi church in Biguli cell, Biguli ward in Kamwenge District. Three motorcycles under registration numbers UEC 288D, UDT 809U, and UDL 356B, were slightly damaged.
“The suspect and his accomplice tried to escape using their motorcycle under registration number UFE 568A, Bajaj Boxer, red in color but they were aggressively pursued by the church security guard. Bwambale was arrestdd but his accomplice escaped,” said an eye witmess.

πŸ“ŒKenyan healthcare workers, in a joint statement read by Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah on Tuesday, vowed to lay down their tools if they’re not paid their dues within the next 7 days.
β€œThe Ministry of Health should constitute a joint national taskforce to do a health audit and provide long-term solutions to the numerous challenges facing health service delivery in Kenya. Within 7 days, counties that shall have not paid the salaries and statutory deductions should not expect healthcare workers to report on duty.” Dr Atellah said.

πŸ“ŒThe United Nations says it is deeply concerned by a video of a man publicly calling for the killing of its representative in Sudan, Volker Perthes. In the video recording which has been circulating on social media,Β  an elderly Sudanese man verbally abuses the UN official and then asks for a fatwa for him to be killed. The man accuses Mr Perthes of interfering in the country’s politics. The UN has urged Sudanese authorities to investigate the incident.

πŸ“ŒWest African bloc, Ecowas, has condemned the kidnapping of 80 people last week in northern Nigeria. Many of those abducted in Zamfara state were women and children who were collecting firewood. In a statement, Ecowas called for the immediate release of children.Β  Zamfara State has suffered many kidnappings, often for ransom, by armed criminal gangs. The incident is the latest in a wave of violent crime in Nigeria.
