The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Jane Frances Abodo has directed Uganda Police Force (UPF) to produce Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Kitutu Mary Goretti Kimono to court for plea today, Thursday, 6th April 2023.

The development was confirmed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) indicating that Abodo had consented to the charges.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo has consented to the charges. The Police have been directed to produce the Minister in court for plea tomorrow (Thursday),” a statement read.

The statement indicated that Kitutu had been sanctioned on charges of corruption and conspiracy to commit a felony by diverting iron sheets meant for Karamoja Community Empowerment Programme.

Kitutu was on Tuesday handed over to Parliament Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) Police by the committee on Presidential Affairs where she was later detained at Kibuli CID.

However, the ODPP has revealed that the DPP has so far only handled Hon. Kitutu’s case file, and each suspected recipient of the iron sheets has a case file.

“The DPP will make a decision on each case file when submitted by the Police, based on the evidence and the law,”  the statement added.

Since her arrest, several legislators from Karamoja subregion have demanded for the resignation of both Hon Kitutu and her deputy, Agnes Nandutu.
