Uganda’s Ambassador to Turkey Her Excellency Tiperu Nusura and Uganda Community leaders have witnessed the send off of the late Babirye Florence’s body at Istanbul airport today 17th March 2023.  The late Babirye died in Turkey last month (Febuary) following the deadly earthquake.

According to a statement released Monday 14th February, by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Babirye died after the building she was staying in collapsed during the earthquake last month.

Babirye was unfortunately discovered dead in Hatayprovince, one of the badly affected areas,” the statement read.

The late lived in Hatay province where rescue efforts had in some places been disrupted because two groups had clashed.

However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with authorities in Turkey exhumed and repatriated back home her body to be accorded a decent burial by relatives in Lwengo district where she hailed from.

In February, relatives of 31-year-old asked the government to come to their rescue to help them raise 10 million shillings to repatriate her body back.

Babirye’s relatives will be able to accord her a proper funeral as her body is expected to land at Entebbe airport in a few hours.
