At least four suspects have been netted in Apac municipality during the ongoing operation being conducted by the joint security taskforce to hunt for unknown assailants who on Saturday, March 11, 2023, gunned down 43-year-old Denis Angole, a local prominent trader of the area.

George Abdul, the Apac Resident District Commissioner (RDC), said the deceased, was shot to death four times by the assailants from his residential gate at Akere division in Apac Municipality.

The preliminary report suggests that the deceased’s life could have been the target of the attackers adding that there was a scuffle before he was shot dead because his clothes were found torn.

RDC Abudul noted that the reason for his shooting is still unknown since the assailants did not plunder anything from the deceased.

“We are wondering why they did not take anything from him—maybe they targeted his life,” RDC Abudul said.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga regional spokesperson, also said they are yet to establish the motives of the attackers.

The residents of Apac municipality have described the deceased as a humble man who started his business as a fisherman in Akokoro before shifting to Apac town.

According to the police annual crime report of 2022, a total of 279 cases of murder by shooting were reported to the police countrywide in 2022, compared to 303 cases reported in 2021.

It also indicates that a total of 296 persons were shot dead, of whom 272 were identified as male adults and juveniles and 24 as females.
