🇺🇬 North Kigezi’s Bishop Onesmus Asiimwe consecrated
📌Rt Rev Onesmus Asiimwe has Sunday been consecrated the 6th Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese at Emmanuel Cathedral in Kinyasano, Rukungiri Municipality.  The consecration ceremony was led by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Dr Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, and the former archbishop Henry Luke Orombi who was the day’s preacher. Vice President Jessica Alupo represented President Yoweri Museveni who is on a three-day State visit in Algeria.

🇺🇬 Archbishop Kazimba challenges North Kigezi christians to engage in income generating projects
📌 Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu has challenged christians of North Kigezi Diocese, led by the newly consecrated Bishop Onesmus Asiimwe, to engage in meaningful income generating projects for sustainability of Church ministry and programs. Archbishop Kazimba made the remarks on Sunday while presiding over the consecration and enthronement of Rt Rev Asiimwe as the 6th Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese at Emmanuel Cathedral, Kinyasano in Rukungiri Municipality.
“The Church should remain a transformational institution and exploit more opportunities as we serve the community. I thank the Government of Uganda for the mutual partnership in bringing services to the people of Uganda,” said Kazimba.
President Museveni, in his message read by Vice President Jessica Alupo, commended the Church of Uganda for its commitment to teach people on how to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the development of the church and the country at large. He rallied all the christians to support the new Bishop to develop the Diocese.

🇺🇬 KCCA fails to remit UGX 4.107Bn statutory deductions 
📌The Committee of Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises-COSASE has faulted Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA for failing to remit the statutory deductions from staff amounting to 4.107 billion Shillings to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) for the Financial Year 2021/2022. The committee members chaired by Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi confirmed the anomaly following their probe into the matter after the Auditor General’s report raised a red flag over the same during the year under review.

🇺🇬 Man hangs self after losing Shs7 Million to a prostitute in Kyengera 
📌Police in Kampala are investigating circumstances under which Herbert Mugera, 32 committed suicide by hanging after losing shs7 Million to a prostitute he had hired. According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the incident happened at Channel 3 Lodge in Wakimese zone, Kyengera Town Council Wakiso District where the deceased had rented a room to have fun with Brenda who allegedly stole the money and is currently on the run.

🇺🇬 FARDC-UPDF puts another ADF commander  out of action 
📌Colonel Mak Hazukay, the spokesperson for the joint operations of the Congolese and Ugandan armies (FARDC-UPDF) said in a statement on Saturday night that Segujja Mulalo, the third highest ranking commander of the ADF terrorist group was killed during clashes in the Mwalika valley, in the Rwenzori sector (North Kivu), which is close to the Ugandan border. Hazukay said Mulalo was the head of the political wing of the ADF/MTM, commander of the Southern Sector/Rwenzori-Mwalika.

📌Every parish across the country is set to benefit from the agro processing plant and a tractor under Parish Development Model (PDM), National Programme Co-ordinator Denis Ssozi Galabuzi has said. He raised this during the launch of Parish Revolving Fund (PRF) in Arua District following a concern by Arua district chairperson.

🇺🇬 Woman kills her three year old son, suffocates three- month old
📌A 34-year-old mother accused of stabbing to death her three-year-old son on Saturday survived lynching after Police  rescued her from a mob at Vanguard Ward in Laroo-Pece Division in Gulu City. The suspect, a mother of three, is also accused of attempted strangulation of her three-month-old daughter who is now hospitalized and in critical condition. Neighbors believe the woman acted out of rage following a heated disagreement with her husband Friday evening. According to Chris Otim, one of the suspect’s neighbors, she on Saturday stabbed her son to death and was intercepted as she tried to dump her 3 month unconscious daughter in a pit latrine. The baby was found injured around the neck before she was rushed to hospital.

🇺🇬 Fire guts maize and cassava store in Kasese 
📌Traders at Kilembe Quarters in Kasese Municipality are counting losses following the Saturday night fire that gutted maize and cassava-milling factory destroying properties worth millions of shillings. According to Mr Sabuni George, an eyewitness, this resulted from an electric short circuit within the milling factory. The fire burnt into ashes two milling machines and over 50 sacks of maize and cassava that were in the store.

📌National Medical Stores (NMS) has delivered medical supplies worth Ugsh. 18 Million to Nabitsikhi Health Centre III.  The  health workers were advised to always follow the delivery schedule guidelines that can be accessed in the health facilities and the NMS website to help in transparency and drug availability in hospitals.

📌The Speaker of Parliament Hon. Anita Among donated a tractor and five semi- tractors to six farming groups of  Kidongole and Koena sub counties in Bukedea District. The beneficiary groups  include Kidongole Women’s group,  Kidongole farmers group A, Kidongole farmers group B , Kidongole poverty eradication farmers group , Aimorikikina farmers youth group, Kidongole and Koena farmers group. Among  said that each of the other members in 40 groups received piglets and financial help.

📌Sheema South veterans Emyoga Sacco earlier this week received Ugshs 50 Million from Micro Finance Center. During the SACCO’S annual general meeting held at Bugongi Town Council hall, The chairperson of the SACCO said that they have 79 fully registered members, with loan disbursement capacity of over UgSh. 100 million. The  District commercial officer  encouraged veterans to embrace government programs like Parish Revolving Funds under PDM.

🇺🇬 BULIISA: World Vision sensitizes communities on water sanitation and hygiene
📌World Vision in partnership held a sensitization outreach on water sanitation and hygiene in Kijura village Busingiro parish, Biiso sub county in Buliisa District.  This was as a result of lack of unhygienic pit latrines and water sources in the area.

🌍 DRC: UN delegation to assess situation in North Kivu Province 
📌United Nations officials have arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo to assess the security and humanitarian situation in the east of the country. Speaking on arrival, Nicolas de Rivière, the French ambassador to the UN reaffirmed the support of the international community to DRC.

🌍 Tanzania and Namibia agree on diplomatic cooperation, Security
📌Tanzania and Namibia have signed three Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on political and diplomatic consultations, cooperation, security matters as well as energy resources. The MoUs were signed on Saturday following the deliberations of the three-day third session of the Namibia-Tanzania Joint Commission on Cooperation (JCC) in Windhoek, Namibia.

🌍 Angola to  deploy troops to Eastern DRC 
📌Angola has announced it will send troops to eastern DRC a few days after a ceasefire between the M23 rebels and the Government coalition failed. The office of Angola’s President Joao Lourenço, said in a statement on Saturday, that regional leaders, the African Union and United Nations were informed about the decision to send troops to eastern DRC.

📌South Africa’s anti-corruption watchdog have said there is no evidence of wrongdoing by President Cyril Ramaphosa linked to the theft of $580,000 (£482,000), possibly more in cash from his farm. In a preliminary report, the public protector, Kholeka Gcaleka, concludes that Mr Ramaphosa did not violate an ethics code or abuse his role as head of state.

🌍 SENEGAL: Opposition supporters denounce President Macky Sall in protests 
📌Hundreds of Senegalese demonstrated in Paris on Saturday to denounce President’s Macky Sall attempts at running for a third term. The demonstration was organized by the Party of Opposition figure Ousmane Sonko. The participants claim that at least 102 of its members have been detained for crimes of opinion. Opponents and civil rights defenders claim that civil liberties in Senegal are coming under pressure in the run-up to the February 2024 Presidential election.

🌍 LIBYA: UN Envoy calls for agreement on elections 
📌The UN envoy to Libya led by Abdoulaye Bathily on Saturday called for the rival administrations in the country to reach an agreement by mid-June and hold long-delayed elections by the end of the year. Libya remains split between a nominally interim government in Tripoli in the west, and another in the east backed by military strongman Khalifa Haftar.
