🇺🇬 Uganda can now produce 7.2 billion litres of milk- President Museveni
📌During the celebrations to mark the International Women’s Day at Sanga Primary School playground in Kiruhura District, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni revealed that Uganda can now produce 7.2 billion litres of milk. The President urged Ugandans to embrace the 4 acre model and incorporate diary farmimg in order to get high yields. He reminisced that it was in Kiruhura that their student group launched the anti-Nomadism campaign in December 1966.

🇺🇬 President Museveni wants markets to be owned by local authorities not private owners
📌President Museveni has rejected a proposal in the Markets Bill 2021 that would allow companies and private individuals to own and operate markets. In a letter read during plenary by Speaker Anita Among on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, the President expressed dissatisfaction with the proposal that the ownership and operation of markets be opened up to private individuals. He said there is a need to review clauses on the private ownership of markets given the problems that have been associated with the management of public markets like extortion of vendors, charging of illegal fees, and levies and the existence of landlords in the public markets.
“Given the problems that have been associated with the involvement of private persons or companies in the management of public markets, public markets should be developed and managed by local authorities; therefore, the above clause should be deleted,” the President’s letter read in part.

🇺🇬 President Museveni hails late Nagenda as a patriotic intellectual
📌President Museveni on Tueday eulogized the former Senior Presidential Advisor on Media John Nagenda as a true patriotic Ugandan who agitated for the return of cultural institutions. This message was read by Prime Minister Hon. Robinah Nabbanja on behalf of the President.
“He was a good writer and a patriotic intellectual who used his influence and knowledge to inform and educate Ugandans,” read part of the President’s letter.

🇺🇬 State House to give scholarships to children of Doctors who died of COVID-19 and Ebola while on duty
📌President Yoweri Museveni has directed that all names of children for all Doctors who died of the COVID-19 and Ebola outbreak in the country be submitted to State House for scholarships. This is according to a letter dated February 28, 2023 written by Dr. Diana Atwine the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, directing the Executive Director Mulago and Butabika National Referral Hospitals, regional referral hospitals and all hospitals in the country.

🇺🇬 Statehouse empowers farmers with Hybrid Goats
📌The office of President of Uganda through Statehouse has empowered the farmers of Apopong parish in Kolir Sub County in Bukedea District with hybrid goats under the Poverty Alleviation Program (PAP).The goats were given out on  Monday, March 6, 2023 at Apopong village. According to Ms. Hellen Akello, the private secretary for poverty alleviation in State House, a total of 560 goats have been distributed as a piloting point before rolling out to the entire district.
“This project is going to roll out to the entire district of Bukedea and we are here in the parish of Apopong as a pilot parish”, said Ms. Akello. Ms. Akello said that hybrid goats are expected to multiply and each farmer is advised to take care of it without selling.

🇺🇬 Makerere University launches use of digital bikes inside the Campus
📌Students at Makerere University have embraced the launch of digital bikes aimed at easing movement of campusers around the institution. A total of 9 stations each with at least 20 bikes have been set up at different spots around the university premises. The team behind the digital bikes designed an app which students in the University can access from Playstore. (Named Digital Bikes). A user should also have a valid national ID or University ID which will grant them access to use the bikes. Each ride goes for a fee of UGX 500, which is estimated to last 20 minutes long to reach your destination.

📌The World Bank Group has pledged to expedite women equality and their empowerment.
“On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2023, we at the World Bank Group will celebrate women’s achievements and contributions with a series of events and engagements” read a statement from World Bank. The UN theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”.

🇺🇬 Ugandans working  in China to discuss business challenges in Guangzhou
📌Uganda’s consulate in Guangzhou will hold the first ever facilitation symposium for Ugandans doing business and those intending to do business in China with an aim to mitigate challenges they face. According to the Consulate General, the symposium is to take place on March 14  in Guangzhou.
“The symposium follows the recent reopening of China after the Covid-19 pandemic to provide Ugandans with relevant information to mitigate the challenges they face while doing business in China,” a statement from the Consulate General stated.

🇺🇬 Police warns public on stone-throwing criminals along Northern Bypass
📌 The Kampala Metropolitan Police has warned the public particularly motorists who use the Northern Bypass at night to be cautious following reports of stone-throwing criminals along the highway.
“The gangs have returned with new tactics such as throwing garbage sacks at motorists to force them to stop. Therefore every road user should be on the lookout for similar incidents”, watned Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson. Enanga said new black spots include Kiwatule just before the overhead bridge, Nalya, Kyebando pass over and Bwaise around the NWSC sewerage treatment plant where they also use boulders, rocks, sharp instruments, dirty water and sticky substances on the wind screens thrown at the motor vehicles.

🇺🇬 Police clears traffic flow on Entebbe expressway after false bomb threats
📌Uganda Police Force earlier today blocked traffic flow on the busy Kampala-Entebbe expressway over a false suspected terrorism threat in form of a bomb.
“This is to inform all road users who are using Entebbe Express Highway that there’s an investigation going on by the Police Bomb Squad along the Expressway,” said SSP Kauma Nsereko, Commander Kampala Metropolitan Police Traffic on Wednesday morning. Immediately after thorough investigations, Police okayed the traffic flow along Entebbe expressway regarding it as false threats.

🇺🇬 Oyam District donates smartphones to teachers under the TELA Program 
📌Oyam District Local Government Department of Education and Sports with support from the Ministry of Education and Sports donated 111 smartphones to each head teacher and principal in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions in Oyam District to help implement the TELA program. TELA (Teachers Effective and Learners Achievement) is a new system implemented by the Ministry of Education aimed at monitoring the effective teaching of teachers at schools and the effectiveness of students’ learning daily at school. Casimiro Olobo, the chairperson of the Uganda National Teachers Union (UNTU) Oyam and a head teacher at Ajaga Primary School welcomed the initiative.

🇺🇬 NAMAYINGO: Woman dumps 7 months old baby in bush after three different men deny responsibility
📌Residents of Bunyalawo Village in Buwoya ward, Banda Town Council, Namayingo District intercepted a one Auma Bridget, 22, who was escaping to Kampala after dumping a seven months old bay in the bush. Locals say they mounted a search for the  woman after discovering the baby crying abandoned in the bush, she was found at the neighbouring village soliciting money for transport to Kampala where she was going to to work as a house maid. Auma said that she dumped the baby after three different men denied responsibility since pregnancy.

🇺🇬 LIRA CITY: Uganda Police probes death of Manchester United fan after loss to Liverpool
📌Eddy Okello a resident of Burlobo ward and a Manchester United fan in Lira City died mysteriously after watching the Sunday match where his favorite team suffered a humiliating defeat (7-0) to Liverpool FC in the English Premier League. Okello, was found dead in his bedroom on Monday afternoon. According to the North Kyoga regional police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema, confirmed the incident, saying investigations are ongoing to ascertain the actual cause of his death.

🇺🇬 SHEEMA: Residents receive over 600 goats under State House Poverty Alleviation Project (PAP)
📌Residents in different sub counties in Sheema District received over 600 goats that will be distributed in different sub counties of Rwamujojo Ward, Sheema Central Division. The State House Presidential Model Village under Poverty alleviation project is an initiative fighting poverty in households. The goats were received by the different Local Council Chairpersons, PAP field Officers and village coordinators.

🌍 KENYA: Opposition MPs tell President Ruto to quit blame games but deliver services to the people
📌A section of Azimio la Umoja law makers  in Kenya wants President William Ruto to desist from blame games and deliver his pledges to Kenyans. The MPs led by Edwin Sifuna said the Ruto-led administration has been pointing fingers to the past regime instead of tackling the issues affecting ordinary Kenyans such as high cost of living. The legislators also took issues with the borrowing spree by the Government which they vehemently opposed during their campaigns. The leaders have said they will not relent to push on the Government for accountability on  how they are  currently utilizing the tax payers’ money which they say is being misappropriated.

🌍 DRC: M23 declared ceasefire in East fails as fighting resumes
📌The ceasefire declared in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo by the M23 rebel group on Tuesday did not last long as clashes were reported in some villages in Masisi territory, North Kivu. Fighting resumed just hours after M23 issued a press release announcing an “effective ceasefire”. By 12PM Tuesday, the M23 had said it had decided to stop fighting adding that the decision was in line with consultations between them and Angolan President João Lourenço, the mediator in the Congolese crisis through the Luanda peace process. President Félix Tshisekedi had earlier expressed doubts about the sincerity of the M23 cease fire pledge.

🌍 SOMALIA: Parties reject proposal to extend President’s term limits
📌The biggest coalition of parties in Somalia has opposed proposals to change the constitution and extend the Government’s term from the current four years to five years. The Justice and Development of Democracy and Self Respectfulness Party, an umbrella body of seven political parties has said that they reject attempts to change the Constitution.
“The Cahdi party opposes the constitutional crisis led by President Hassan Sheikh, which violates the provisions of the country’s constitution, namely Article 60 and Article 91, which specify and explain the term of office of the President and governing councils, which is four years,” read a statement issued on Tuesday.

🌍 UN criticises UK’s drafted migrant plan
📌The UN high commissioner for human rights Volker Turk Wednesday criticized a British draft law that would outlaw asylum claims by anyone arriving in the country illegally warning it would violate international law.
“I am deeply concerned at this legislation,” Volker Turk said in a statement. Turk joined the chorus of concerns voiced by the UN refugee agency and a string of rights groups. The draft law “would allow the UK authorities to detain and remove all those who enter the UK using small boats to cross the Channel, ban their future re-entry to the UK and prohibit them from applying for UK citizenship”, he said.

🌍 Afghan Women are the most repressed in the world – UN
📌Afghanistan under the Taliban Government is the most repressive country in the world for women’s rights with authorities effectively trapping women and girls in their homes, the United Nations said on Wednesday. About 20 women held a rare demonstration in a Kabul street on Wednesday calling on the international community to protect Afghans. The Taliban Government adheres to an austere interpretation of Islam and has imposed restrictions on girls and women since seizing power in August 2021. The UN mission said women are barred from going to parks, funfairs, gyms, public baths, and ordered to cover up in public.
