Second Makindye Bar Shooting Victim Succumbs to Injuries

A second victim of the Makindye division bar shooting has been confirmed dead following the shooting by a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer on the morning of 7th March 2023.

The deceased, identified as Anita Namakula had been admitted at St. Francis Nsambya hospital after attaining injuries following the shooting that claimed one Aggrey Ampumuza on spot.

The incident happened on Tuesday at 3:00am at the Naiga established in Boston village, Salama Parish, Makindye division.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, a group of four people were drinking at the bar when a UPDF officer Lance Corporal Katamugaya David, approached them while holding an AK-47 and wearing a green digital army uniform.

Katamugaya instructed one of them to step a side and opened fire towards the four remaining victims, killing one instantly,” Owoyesigyire said. 

Owoyesigyire further said that upon receiving the report of the incident, a police team immediately responded to the scene that included the SOCCO and Homicide Units that documented the scene and recovered five cartridges along with one projectile.

Police ascertained that the shooter was one of the bodyguards attached to Kamuswaga of Kooki.

The Police found an AK-47 rifle with 24 rounds of ammunition at his residence. However, the suspect is still on the run, and investigations are ongoing,”  he stated.

Ben TwinamatsikoAggrey’s brother and another unidentified victim were rushed to Mulago hospital and are still getting medical attention.

Although the cause of the shooting is still unknown, there are reports that this could be a crime of passion following information indicating that Katamugaya accused Aggrey of meddling in his affairs with Namakula.
