🇺🇬 UNEB to release UACE results on Friday
📌The State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo has confirmed that the 2022 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exam results will be released on Friday, March 3, 2023 by the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) and the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni.  The results will be released at State House in Nakasero at 11 AM.

🇺🇬 South Africa awards President Museveni for his contribution to South African liberation
📌The President of Uganda Yoweri K Museveni was on February 28 conferred upon the ‘Order of South Africa’ by his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa at the state Banquet held at the Presidential residence.
“His excellency the President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa hereby confers the ‘Order of South Africa’ upon H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for your steady leadership and strengthening relations between Uganda and South Africa. Your efforts in persuading the people of Uganda to host our combatants of South Africa during the most difficult times of our struggle for liberation became the strong foundation from which the increasingly warm relations between the two nations firmly rest,” the presentation read. National Orders are the highest awards that a country, through its President, bestows on its citizens and eminent foreign nationals.

🇺🇬 Bobi Wine lured me to have wounds inflicted on my body for 50M’- Quack torture victim
📌 A quack torture victim, Eric Mwesigwa has accused National Unity Platform President, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine of masterminding torture claims and the abductions allegedly by Security operatives. On Wednesday March 1, 2023, Mwesigwa, an alleged torture victim confessed that he was lured by Bobi Wine and the NUP leadership to have wounds inflicted on his body and was promised UGX50M which was not paid to him after the mission was accomplished. Mwesigwa also revealed that NUP owns a drone vehicle which they use to stage the abductions of their supporters.
“I have come to inform the general public that I was not tortured by Security forces but it was just an agreement between me and NUP and my brother Joseph Kaddu was the next victim in April,” Mwesigwa stated.
On February 13, 2023, Bobi Wine posted on his different social media pages, disturbing photos of Mwesigwa with wounds and scars all over his body, claiming he was abducted, tortured and burnt on his chest using a flat iron by Security operatives.

🇺🇬 Rainy season to extend up to May- Meteorologists 
📌Weather experts have forecasted average rains across most parts of the country as the second rainy season starts from March to May. Officials of the Uganda National Meteorological Authority revealed that some areas of South Western, Central and Lake Victoria Basin are expected to receive near-normal to enhanced rainfall. They warned of potential disasters including floods, and landslides among others.

🇺🇬 Deputy Speaker rallies African countries to reject EU’s unfair trade practices
📌The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has condemned  the practice by European Union (EU) member states of exporting  banned pesticides and products to developing countries, and called upon ACP members to strongly speak as a team and reject the double standards.
According to Tayebwa, developing countries don’t have the capacity to take on the EU independently, noting that speaking against this with one voice gives Africans an advantage. He made the remarks at a conference in the Belgian Capital, Brussels at the headquarters of NATO and EU organised by the African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) Parliament.
“We aren’t able to take on this giant (EU) independently. Even the EU didn’t do it alone, they came as a group and we should also act as a group and reject this unfairness,” said Tayebwa.

🇺🇬 VP Alupo donates 109 bicycles to Katakwi Parish coordinators 
📌The Vice President, H.E Jessica Alupo, also Woman MP for Katakwi District has boosted the work of Parish coordinators in Katakwi District with 109 bicycles to ease their movement in doing government programs. While at the handover function at Boma grounds on February 28, 2023, Alupo thanked the development partners present for the partnership and friendship they have established with the people of Katakwi District.
“We are truly grateful and will sign a memorandum of understanding with them,” she said.

🇺🇬 American company launches 5G smart poles in Kampala
📌The American Tower Corporation (ATC) in conjunction with development partners has launched 5G smart poles to lower communication costs. Dorothy Ssemanda, the Executive Director of ATC revealed that the poles will facilitate e-commerce because the network provides a high quality data speed. A 5G smart pole is an infrastructure that integrates multi-functional smart lighting, monitoring, traffic management, wireless communication, and message transmission.

🇺🇬 Minister Onek woos donors to fund refugee programs
📌The Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Hillary Onek, has appealed to donors to fund refugee response programs in Uganda to reduce the Government’s burden. The Minister said refugee funding dwindled as a result of the war between Russia and Ukraine which saw donors divert most of the funding to the refugee response there at the expense of host countries grappling with the refugee crisis. Onek made the remarks during the launch of Uganda’s road map towards the 2023 Global refugee forum which will take place in Geneva in December this year.  Uganda hosts at least 1.5 million refugees in different settlements across the country.

🇺🇬  Accumulated rent forces Kampala City traders  to vacate buildings
📌Traders in Kampala are vacating shops and buildings due to the high rent charges imposed on them. Turyomwe Henry, a businessman explained that they are making very few sales, paying high taxes and the cost of living keeps raising all the time thus prompting them to shift.

🇺🇬 Uganda’s inflation drops to 9.2%
📌Uganda’s headline inflation rate dropped to 9.2 per cent in February, down from 10.4 percent registered in January. This was largely attributed to a decline in commodity prices, especially food and fuel, according to UBOS officials. This is the first time Uganda is registering single-digit inflation after registering double digits since September 2022 when it rose to 10 and 10.7 per cent in October 2022.

🇺🇬 KISORO: UHRC tips Batwa communities on human rights
📌The Batwa communities in Kisoro District have benefited from a human rights training program aimed at boosting their understanding of their rights. Officials from the Uganda Human Rights Commission with support from the United Nations Human Rights Office in Uganda, visited Batwa communities in various settlements across Kisoro District. Boaz Arinaitwe, the Community Liaisons Officer said the training will help to curb human rights violations in the area.

🇺🇬 NAMISINDWA: Woman suspected of stealing a pig survives mob justice 
📌 Susan Khwaka,  22, a resident of Sirombe Village, Kabayi Parish Bumwoni Sub County in Namisindwa District survived being killed by a mob over being suspected of stealing a pig. According to the LCIII chairperson Bumwoni sub county Michael Khaukha, she broke into the pigsty of her neighbour identified as Bosco Welikhe and disappeared with one of his pigs. Upon realising his pig was missing, he  made an alarm that attracted angry residents who severely beat up the suspect.

🇺🇬 KIKUUBE: Emyooga fund defaulters given two-month ultimatum to pay loan arrears
📌The State Minister for Micro-finance Haruna Kasolo has given defaulters of Emyooga funds in Kikuube District a two-month ultimatum to repay the money. The Minister who has been traversing the Bunyoro sub-region to monitor the performance of Emyooga program was shocked by reports that the district is trailing  in recovery of the funds. Kikuube is the worst-performing district in Bunyoro sub-region in the recovery of money. The district was given seed capital of 1.2 billion shillings.

🇺🇬 APAC: Security hunts for traditional herbalist for  allegedly killing thieves 
📌Security officers in Apac District are in search of a traditional herbalist identified as Butalejja who gives medicine that kills those alleged to be thieves. Officials say that they want to fill the gap to identify herbalists and witch doctors who don’t follow ethics.

🇺🇬 WAKISO: District councillors accuse RDC of misappropriating funds 
📌Wakiso District councillors have accused the area RDC of misappropriating funds that were meant for constructing their road. It is alleged that the money was diverted to Nansana roads. However, the RDC Justine Mbabazi denied the accusations.

🇺🇬 KYENJOJO: Police sensitises residents in Kyamutunzi Town Council on community policing
📌Residents in Kyamutunzi Town Council have applauded the Police for strengthening the relationship between Police and the community to facilitate the fight against crime in the area. This took place during a meeting on community police at Kyamutunzi Town Council headquarters organised by the Kyenjojo District Community Liaison Officer, ASP Baseka. The meeting was also attended by the Mayor Maliro Mustafa, OC Kyamutunzi Police Station,  ASP Kazungu Ronald, the GISO, councillors, residents among others.

🇺🇬 HOIMA: Fire guts Hoima Town Mosque Nursery and Primary School dormitry 
📌Dozens of pupils of Hoima Town Mosque Nursery and Primary School have lost their property to fire that gutted their dormitory last evening. Bruhan, one of the directors of the school, explained that they heard a loud burst from the dormitory that was followed by huge flames and immediately alerted the Police that rushed to put out the fire.

🇺🇬 MAKINDYE: Police arrests child kidnappers 
📌The Police task force team recovered two male siblings who were kidnapped and the three suspects arrested in Ave Maria Nsambya, Makindye Division. The victims were identified as Jeremia Nyombi aged 6 and Mbaziira Joshua aged 10 pupils of Mirembe Junior School. It is alleged that  on February 24, 2023, the kidnapper managed to take them up to St Benidicto zone in Kibuye 1 and confined the kids until late at evening. The kidnappers contacted the mother of the children, one Kyohirwe Caroline, asking for 5 million  shillings. Police tracked them and the 3 suspected kidnappers were arrested. They included Nekambuza Yusuf, Nabuuma Resty, and Kyambadde Emmanuel.

🌍 KENYA: Airlines 748 Air Services Suspends Domestic Flights
📌Kenyan airline 748 Air Services Limited has announced that all domestic scheduled commercial flights will cease on March 1, 2023. According to Managing Director Moses Mwangi, the airline has decided to focus on providing humanitarian aviation services in seven African countries.
“After extensive review of our business strategy, we have opted to focus on our core business, the Humanitarian Aviation, currently operating in 7 African Countries,” Mwangi said. “We therefore regret to inform you that we have resolved to suspend all our Domestic Scheduled commercial flights effective 1st March 2023,” he added. The airline started its domestic commercial operations on May 20, 2021, offering flights to Mombasa, Malindi, Diani, Kisumu and Maasai Mara.

🌍 KENYA: Women Should be Included in Climate Action Initiatives – Rachel Ruto 
📌First Lady Rachel Ruto says despite women facing challenges such as limited access to education and financial resources, they have a critical role in carbon removal efforts since they are often involved in small-scale agricultural activities.
“By enabling women to participate in the carbon economy, we can help to create new opportunities for income generation, improve their livelihoods, and contribute to global efforts to address climate change,” the First Lady said at the National Workshop on Carbon Removal in Nairobi.

🌍 RWANDA: President Kagame to receive CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award
📌President Paul Kagame will receive CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award 2022 in an awarding ceremony that will take place in Kigali on March 14. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) presents the award to individuals in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the development of sports in 2022. According to CAF President Patrice Motsepe, the conferring of the award to Kagame and King Mohammed VI of Morocco after the duo were chosen for the award for the year 2022. Present will be FIFA President Gianni Infantino and other CAF guests.

🌍 DRC: Anti-Macron protests held Ahead of his Central Africa visit
📌Civil society groups are holding a protest in DRC’S  capital, Kinshasa, against a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron that is scheduled for later this week. The protesters gathered outside the French embassy to accuse France of siding with neighbouring Rwanda, which has been linked by the UN and US of supporting the M23 rebel group based in the eastern part of the country.President Macron visit is meant to “deepen the Franco-Congolese relationship in the fields of education, health, research, culture and defence,” according to a statement from his office.

🌍 DRC: MPs Call for talks with M23 rebels
📌A section of Members of Parliament from the conflict-hit North Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of Congo want President Felix Tshisekedi to consider engaging the M23 rebel group. In an open letter,  the MPs said a peaceful settlement would de-escalate the ongoing conflict in Eastern DRC that has displaced hundreds of thousands in the past year. The legislators have demanded to be involved in peace initiatives seeking to resolve the security crisis in the region.

🌍 NIGERIA: President Buhari Congratulates Tinubu Over Election win
📌Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated President-Elect Bola Tinubu, saying he is the best man for the job.
“I shall now work with him and his team to ensure an orderly handover of power,” the President said in a statement. However, Mr Tinubu’s win has been disputed by opposition parties who have demanded a re-run. Buhari acknowledged challenges in the voting procedure but said there was no doubt to the freeness and fairness of the elections.
