πŸ“ŒThe State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo has said Government is in final stages of presenting to Parliament amendments in the Education Act 2008 to ensure parents and guardians enrol all children under their care to schools.

β€œWe need every school going child to be at school but many parents ignore this. The solution is in the new law, very soon we shall be presenting a number of amendments made to it,” Muyingo said.

In the case filed in 2019 by six French and Ugandan NGOs accused TotalEnergiesΒ  of not doing enoughΒ  to protect people and the environment from the Tilenga oil development and the $3.5 billion East African Crude Oil Pipeline. Supply. On Tuesday, a French court ruled that the six NGOs from France and Uganda didn’t follow the right procedures in their case against TotalEnergies.

πŸ“Œ Officials from the Ministry of Water and National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) have decried the high level of corruption among local leaders who frustrateΒ  efforts to restore wetlands and other water sources. During the launch of the Water and Environment Week which was celebrated under the theme: Water and Environment for Climate-Resilient Development in Mbarara City, John Bosco Bamuturaki, the Chairperson River Rwizi Catchment Committee operating under the Water Ministry during the launch said Government put environmental structures at all levels in local councils, but they have ‘found a major challenge of corruption among leaders who promise cover-ups in case there is an attempt to be evicted’.

πŸ“ŒA court in Paris on Tuesday dismissed a case filed by six French and Ugandan environmental and human rights groups seeking to halt construction of the 1,443km East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) from Uganda to Tanzania. The activists had accused French oil major TotalEnergies, the lead investor in the $5 billion EACOP of doing little to protect the environment and people.The Court, however, ruled that the case was not only inadmissible but also required in-depth analysis to ascertain if the accusations against the firm were justified, including an audit of ground operations.

The Head of State pointed out that it has recently emerged as customary for government officials to hide behind meetings leaving no time to attend to their duties.

πŸ“ŒNigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday announced that All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu beat former Vice President and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar and the Labor Party’s Peter Obi, to become the President elect of Nigeria and will succeed the outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari. Nigeria’s electrol body INEC chairperson Mahmood Yakubu announced that Tinubu secured nearly 8.8 million votes, while Abubakar came in second with 7 million votes and Obi third with 6.1 million votes.
